Description
The United States Army was founded on 14 June 1775, which makes 2025 its 250th year — and the Auto-Ordnance 1911 Army 250th marks it on the pistol that served the Army longer than any other sidearm in its history. The slide is marked UNITED STATES with 250 YEARS in gold at the rear, the frame is finished in bronze Cerakote against it, and the grips are carved in relief with a Continental Army soldier.
Why the 1911 Is the Right Pistol for This
The choice of platform is not incidental. The M1911 was adopted in March 1911 and served as the standard US Army sidearm until 1985 — seventy-four years, two world wars, Korea and Vietnam. No other handgun in American service comes close, and a great many of the soldiers whose service the Auto-Ordnance 1911 Army 250th commemorates carried exactly this pistol.
The configuration reflects that. This is the GI pattern rather than a modern competition 1911: spur hammer, small thumb safety, plain sights, the lines the service pistol actually had. It is the right decision for a commemorative, and it is also what makes the gold and bronze treatment read as ceremonial rather than as a tuning job.

A note on what this is for. Anniversary editions are bought to be kept, and this one is priced as a commemorative rather than as a shooting 1911. It is mechanically an ordinary GI-pattern 45 and it will shoot perfectly well, but the carved grips and the Cerakote would both show wear from regular range use. Most owners will put it in a case, and that is a reasonable thing to do with it.
Why it is worth considering
- Marks the 250th year of the United States Army, founded in 1775
- Built on the 1911, the Army standard sidearm from 1911 to 1985
- Two-tone dark slide over bronze Cerakote frame with gold anniversary marking
- Wood grips carved in deep relief with a Continental Army soldier
- GI pattern rather than a modern competition build, correct for a commemorative
- Standard 45 ACP, 7+1
Who it suits
The Auto-Ordnance 1911 Army 250th suits the veteran, the serving soldier, the military collector and anyone buying a retirement or commissioning gift with a connection to the Army. It also suits a collector assembling anniversary pieces, since 250 years will not come round again. If you want a 45 to carry or shoot regularly, Auto-Ordnance’s Cerakote 1911 has the upgrades that matter and none of the reasons to be careful with it.

Buying and Transferring the Auto-Ordnance 1911 Army 250th
Anniversary editions are produced in finite runs and a 250th will not be reissued. If this is going to be a gift for a retirement, a commissioning or a milestone birthday, the timing is worth thinking about rather than assuming it will still be available later in the year. Manufacturer information is published by Auto-Ordnance.
Auto-Ordnance produce several service commemoratives alongside this one. Compare it with the Red Tails Tuskegee Airmen tribute and the Texas Ranger special edition, browse our full Auto-Ordnance range, or look through the handgun catalog.
All firearm orders ship to a licensed FFL dealer for transfer, and MAG5 Firearms will coordinate the paperwork with the dealer of your choice.
One historical footnote that collectors tend to enjoy: the pistol this commemorative is built on was designed by John Browning and adopted by the Army on 29 March 1911, which means the platform itself passed its own centenary more than a decade ago. A 250th anniversary piece built on a design that has been in American service for over a hundred years is a rarer kind of tribute than it first appears.
