Description

The Atrius FRS Mil-Spec Super Safety, Atrius Development Group part number ADG-FRS-S-MS, is a three-position safety selector for the AR-15. It replaces your rifle’s standard two-position selector and adds a third forced reset position, with a traditional mil-spec style lever with ergonomic ridges and a position pointer, so it looks at home on retro and clone builds.

Atrius FRS Mil-Spec Super Safety Overview

Atrius Development Group designs its Forced Reset Selector, often called the Super Safety, as a self-contained upgrade. Instead of replacing the trigger, the forced reset function lives in the selector itself. The Atrius FRS Mil-Spec Super Safety is machined from heat-treated 4140 steel and finished in a corrosion-resistant black nitride, and it is made in the USA.

Three Positions

The selector has three positions: Safe, standard Semi, and the forced reset position. In Safe, the trigger is blocked like any AR-15 safety. In Semi, the rifle works exactly as it did before, so you can keep a conventional trigger feel whenever you want it. In the third position, a cam on the selector uses the rearward travel of the carrier to push the trigger forward and reset it, which shortens the reset time between shots. The rifle still fires one round for each function of the trigger.

Compatibility

The Atrius FRS Mil-Spec Super Safety is designed for mil-spec AR-15 lower receivers chambered in 223 Remington, 5.56 NATO and 300 Blackout. It is built to run with a mil-spec trigger with no relief cut. Atrius calls for a full-auto profile bolt carrier group so the carrier can work the selector cam, and some lowers need clearance in the rear of the fire control pocket. It is not intended for AR-10, LR-308 or SR-25 pattern rifles, and pistol-caliber AR builds may need professional fitting.

Buffer and Tuning

Forced reset systems depend on consistent carrier speed. For carbine-length buffer tubes and barrels of 16 inches or shorter, Atrius recommends at least an H2 buffer, with an H3 buffer preferred, while full-length rifle stocks should use the standard rifle buffer. Ammunition, gas system and suppressor use all affect timing, so test the rifle in the Semi position first, then confirm reliable resets in the third position before relying on it.

Installation

The selector is a drop-in part for most rifles, though some minor fitting may be required. Remove the pistol grip and your existing selector, install the Atrius selector and its detent spring, and secure the lever screw with a T10 driver. Atrius specifies 15 inch-pounds of torque with blue Loctite on the 4-40 screw. Function check every position before firing. If you are not comfortable working on your rifle, have a qualified gunsmith install it.

Laws and Compliance

Forced reset devices remain the subject of ongoing federal litigation, and some states and localities restrict or prohibit them. Check your state and local laws before you order, install or travel with one. We will not ship this product to any location where it is prohibited.
