Description
The Alpha Foxtrot Romulus DLC black is the full-size 5-inch build in a matte, non-reflective finish rather than the polished version. Frame, slide and bull ramped barrel are all SUS416 stainless steel wearing a black DLC coating, which means no bright edges to catch light on a range under lights or at dusk. Capacity is 20+1 of 9mm in a double-stack 1911 frame.
Matte DLC Over a Full-Size Match Barrel
5-inch bull ramped barrel in SUS416 stainless steel, black DLC finished to match the slide and frame.
The matte surface on the Alpha Foxtrot Romulus DLC black cuts glare across the top of the slide, which matters more than most shooters expect under artificial light.
Diamond-like carbon is harder than the stainless underneath it and cuts friction, so the gun runs with less lubricant and cleans up faster.
Serrated slide and frame, extended beavertail and a tactical accessory rail on the dust cover.
Optic Ready With Both Footprints Covered
MOS adapter cut in the slide supports the RMR and the RMSc footprints, which between them cover most red dots sold today.
Optic sits low enough that the factory sights remain usable underneath.
Injected polymer grip module over a steel double-stack frame, the 2011 layout behind the 20-round capacity.
Fully ambidextrous controls and a flared magwell.
Part number AA39X1EID-XDBK19.

Polished or matte is not only a looks question. A polished DLC slide reflects light along its flats, which reads as a highlight down the length of the gun and can throw glare into your eye when the sun or a range light sits at the wrong angle. Matte scatters that light instead. Mechanically the two finishes are the same coating with the same hardness and the same corrosion resistance, so the choice comes down to preference and how much glare bothers you.
Why it is worth considering
- Full-size 5-inch barrel and a 20+1 magazine.
- Matte black DLC on frame, slide and barrel, with no bright edges.
- MOS adapter cut supporting both common red dot footprints.
- Ambidextrous controls and a flared magwell as standard.
- Built in America on a steel double-stack 1911 frame.
Who it suits
Anyone who shoots indoors, at night, or under range lights will appreciate what the matte finish does for glare, and the Alpha Foxtrot Romulus DLC black gives up nothing mechanically to the polished version. It suits duty-minded shooters and competitors alike, and the accessory rail plus 20+1 capacity make it a serious home defense option.

Where This Romulus Sits
Alpha Foxtrot offers the Romulus in 3.5-inch, 4.25-inch and 5-inch lengths, in polished or matte DLC, with a direct RMSc cut or a MOS adapter cut, and with standard, threaded or compensated barrels. The polished 5-inch MOS build is this same pistol with a brighter finish, and the 5-inch RMSc direct cut trades the adapter plates for a dedicated pocket. For a muzzle device, see the 5-inch threaded model. Model details are published by the maker at Alpha Foxtrot.
Feeding a 20+1 pistol is its own budget line. A 124-grain jacketed hollow point makes a sound defensive load out of a 5-inch barrel, with 115-grain full metal jacket kept for practice volume. All firearm orders ship to a licensed FFL dealer for transfer, and MAG5 Firearms will coordinate the paperwork with the dealer of your choice.
