Description
The Alex Pro Firearms Volunteer is a complete AR-15 in 5.56 NATO with a 14.5-inch barrel and a permanently attached three-prong flash hider, which brings it past the 16-inch legal minimum without the paperwork a short-barreled rifle would need. The whole rifle wears a sand Cerakote finish, and it ships with a CMC Combat Curve trigger rather than the usual mil-spec part.
The Pinned and Welded Barrel
14.5-inch barrel with a three-prong flash hider pinned and welded in place, giving a legal overall barrel length of more than 16 inches.
That is the reason the Alex Pro Firearms Volunteer is an ordinary rifle rather than an NFA item: the muzzle device cannot be removed, so it counts as part of the barrel.
13.5-inch M-LOK handguard, so only the muzzle device sits beyond the rail.
Sand Cerakote across the receivers, handguard and furniture.
Trigger, Controls and Furniture
CMC Combat Curve trigger, a genuine upgrade over the mil-spec trigger most rifles at this price ship with.
Ambidextrous safety selector, which matters more than most people expect once you have used one.
Magpul MOE SL stock and a polymer pistol grip.
Chambered 5.56 NATO, so both 5.56 and .223 Remington are safe to shoot.
One 30-round magazine supplied. Model number RI237.

Pinning and welding a muzzle device is the standard way to build a 14.5-inch AR without entering NFA territory. The device is fitted and then permanently attached, usually with a blind pin and a weld, so removing it would require destroying it. The result handles like a 14.5-inch carbine, which is noticeably quicker than a 16-inch gun, while remaining an ordinary rifle for transfer purposes. MAG5 Firearms does not sell NFA items, and nothing about this rifle requires registration.
Why it is worth considering
- CMC Combat Curve trigger fitted at the factory.
- Ambidextrous safety as standard.
- 14.5-inch handling without NFA paperwork.
- Full Cerakote finish rather than anodizing plus painted furniture.
- Magpul MOE SL stock and a 30-round magazine included.
Who it suits
Shooters who want a complete, well-specified AR without building one are the natural buyers, and the trigger alone saves a common first upgrade. The 14.5-inch configuration suits anyone who prefers a shorter, quicker rifle for home defense or a carbine class. All firearm orders ship to a licensed FFL dealer for transfer.

Ammunition, Optics and Comparisons
A 5.56 NATO chamber shoots both 5.56 and .223 Remington safely. 55-grain ball is the standard practice load, and spare 30-round PMAGs are worth having. If you want a longer barrel or a different chambering, compare the 350 Legend Hunter for straight-wall deer seasons or the 223 Wylde pistol with its Proof Research barrel. No iron sights are fitted. The flat-top receiver and the continuous top rail on the handguard take any standard Picatinny mount, so a red dot, a low-power variable or folding backup sights all fit without modification. On a 14.5-inch barrel a non-magnified red dot is usually the most practical choice.
All firearm orders ship to a licensed FFL dealer for transfer, and MAG5 Firearms will coordinate the paperwork with the dealer of your choice.
A note on the Cerakote: applying it over the receivers, handguard and furniture together gives a uniform color that anodizing cannot, because anodized aluminum and polymer furniture never quite match. It is also harder wearing than paint at the edges, which is where a rifle picks up its first marks.
