Description
A-Zoom 7.62×39 Snap Caps are machined aluminum dummy rounds cut to 7.62x39mm dimensions, two to a pack. This cartridge runs in everything from AK pattern rifles and SKS carbines to AR-15 uppers and bolt guns, and every one of those platforms feeds it a little differently.
How A-Zoom 7.62×39 Snap Caps Are Built
Each round is CNC machined from solid aluminum billet to full cartridge dimensions and hard anodized red. One piece, no separate case head, no plastic body. Nothing shears off and strands a case in the chamber, which is the failure that makes cheap dummies more trouble than they are worth.
The primer end carries a proprietary polymer cushion instead of a live primer, rated by A-Zoom past three thousand strikes. It decelerates the firing pin roughly as a real primer would rather than letting it stop hard, which matters on designs with a free floating pin.
The red anodizing makes A-Zoom 7.62×39 Snap Caps obviously inert. That is genuinely useful when steel cased surplus is also on the bench and you would rather not have to look twice.
Why This Cartridge Needs Dummy Rounds
The 7.62×39 case has a pronounced taper and a fairly steep shoulder, which is why it feeds beautifully from a curved AK magazine and much less beautifully from anything designed around a straighter cartridge. AR-15 uppers in 7.62×39 are notorious for magazine trouble, and cycling A-Zoom 7.62×39 Snap Caps through a magazine by hand is the fastest way to sort a good one from a bad one.
SKS owners get a different benefit. The stripper clip loading system and the fixed magazine both reward practice, and doing it with inert rounds means you can repeat it as often as you like with nothing live present.
Storing the rifle with the hammer down on a dummy round rather than an empty chamber is a habit worth keeping too. It relaxes the mainspring without leaving a cocked action in the safe, and it costs nothing once you own a pair.

Field Notes
Slam fire is a real concern on some surplus designs with free floating firing pins, and one of the standard checks is to look at the primer dimple left after chambering a round. A-Zoom 7.62×39 Snap Caps let you run that check safely.
They are also the right tool for teaching manual of arms. Loading, charging, clearing and unloading an AK or an SKS are motions worth repeating, and inert ammunition means the repetition can happen anywhere.
The polymer cushion is a consumable. When the face is deeply cratered and stops rebounding, retire that round rather than continuing to strike a dead cushion.
