Description

A-Zoom 6.5 PRC Snap Caps are machined aluminum dummy rounds cut to 6.5 PRC dimensions, two to a pack. Precision rifles get dry fired far more than they get shot, and doing that on a snap cap rather than an empty chamber is the difference between practice and wear.
How A-Zoom 6.5 PRC Snap Caps Are Built
Each round is CNC machined from solid aluminum billet to full cartridge dimensions and hard anodized red. One piece, no separate case head, no plastic body. Nothing can shear off and leave a case body in the chamber of a rifle you would rather not be probing with a rod.
The primer end holds a proprietary polymer cushion instead of a live primer, rated by A-Zoom past three thousand strikes. It slows the firing pin roughly as a real primer would rather than letting it stop hard, which is worth something on a custom action fitted with a lightweight titanium pin.
The red anodizing makes A-Zoom 6.5 PRC Snap Caps clearly distinct from loaded ammunition. At a match, where a chamber flag and an obviously inert round are both part of being a good neighbor, that is not a trivial detail.
Why a Short Magnum Wants Dummy Rounds
6.5 PRC is a short action magnum with a fat case body, and it feeds from AICS pattern magazines that were originally designed around 308 sized cartridges. Whether a given magazine actually presents a PRC round cleanly varies by maker, and cycling A-Zoom 6.5 PRC Snap Caps through it is how you find out at the bench rather than during a stage.
Position work is the other half. Building a repeatable prone or barricade position happens through dry fire, and running the bolt with a dummy round in the chamber makes the whole cycle realistic instead of stopping at the trigger press.
Handloaders will find them useful for a third reason. Checking magazine length against a known-dimension dummy is faster than measuring, and cycling one through the action shows whether a long-seated high BC bullet is going to bind on the feed rails before you build a batch.

Field Notes
Barrel life is a real consideration on a 6.5 PRC, so any practice you can move off the firing line is practice that does not cost throat erosion. A-Zoom 6.5 PRC Snap Caps make most of that practice possible indoors.
They are also the right tool after a trigger or chassis change. Confirming sear engagement, safety function and magazine release with an inert round in the chamber is standard practice, and an empty chamber does not tell you the same things.
The polymer cushion is a consumable. When the face is visibly cratered and no longer rebounds, retire that round rather than continuing to strike a dead cushion.
Shooting other long-range chamberings? The same red precision line covers 300 PRC, and the blue ten packs handle volume dry fire in 308 Winchester. Construction details are published by A-Zoom.
For precision rifle shooters and long-range hunters running a 6.5 PRC, A-Zoom 6.5 PRC Snap Caps are the sensible buy. MAG5 Firearms stocks them as manufacturer item PA12307 in the two pack.
