Description

A-Zoom 300 PRC Snap Caps are machined aluminum dummy rounds cut to 300 PRC dimensions, sold two to a pack. On a long-action magnum built for one thing, the ability to cycle the bolt and drop the striker without touching a live round is worth more than the caps cost.
How A-Zoom 300 PRC Snap Caps Are Built
Each one is CNC machined from a solid aluminum billet to full cartridge dimensions, then hard anodized in the red finish A-Zoom uses across its precision rifle line. There is no separate case head and no plastic body, so nothing can shear off and leave a case stuck in a chamber you would rather not be poking at with a rod.
The primer end carries a proprietary polymer cushion instead of a live primer. A-Zoom rates it past three thousand strikes, and it slows the firing pin roughly the way a primer would rather than letting it stop hard against the bolt face. On an expensive custom action with a titanium or lightweight pin, that is not a theoretical concern.
The red anodizing is deliberate. A-Zoom 300 PRC Snap Caps do not resemble loaded ammunition at any useful distance, which is the point when you are working a bolt in a room where live magnum ammunition is also sitting on the bench.
Dimensionally they are held tight enough to headspace and extract like a loaded round. That matters more on a belted-free magnum case like the 300 PRC than it does on a short action, because the whole point of the exercise is confirming that the rifle handles the cartridge geometry correctly rather than just that the trigger goes click.
What Two Rounds Cover on a Magnum
300 PRC is a long-action cartridge with a fat case head, and magazine fit is the most common headache on rifles chambered for it. Cycling A-Zoom 300 PRC Snap Caps through a detachable box is how you find out whether a new AICS-pattern magazine actually feeds before you are prone behind the rifle at a match.
Two is also the right count for trigger work. Setting break weight, checking sear engagement after a trigger swap and confirming the safety blocks the sear all want a dummy round in the chamber, not an empty one. Beyond that, dry fire practice on a heavy-recoiling rifle is where most position work actually gets built.

Field Notes
Leave one chambered when the rifle goes in the safe. Dropping the striker on a snap cap keeps the mainspring relaxed without storing a cocked action, and A-Zoom 300 PRC Snap Caps are cheap next to a replacement firing pin assembly on a magnum bolt gun.
They are useful for load development too. Checking magazine length and feed geometry with an inert round beats doing it with a loaded cartridge sitting at the lands.
The polymer cushion wears out eventually. When the face is visibly cratered and no longer rebounds, retire that round rather than continuing to strike a dead cushion.
Shooting more than one long-range chambering? The same red precision rifle line covers 8.6 Blackout, and the blue ten packs cover volume work in 308 Winchester. Design details are published by A-Zoom.
For anyone running a 300 PRC in competition or on a long-range hunt, A-Zoom 300 PRC Snap Caps make dry fire and magazine testing straightforward. MAG5 Firearms stocks them as manufacturer item PA12315 in the two pack.
