Description
The Retay ACE 28 Gauge Realtree Legacy 28″ is Retay’s standard ACE semi-auto in 28 gauge, finished head to toe in Realtree Legacy camo and fitted with a 28-inch barrel. At just 5 lb 5 oz, it is one of the lightest camo 28 gauge semi-autos you can buy, suited to doves, ducks over decoys at close range, upland birds and small game. This listing is Retay model C-ACELEG-28, UPC 193212047816, MSRP $1,149.
Retay ACE 28 Gauge Realtree Legacy 28 Overview
Realtree Legacy revives the classic look of Realtree’s original pattern, and Retay applies it to the stock, forend, receiver and barrel so there is no shiny metal to flare in the sun. The result is a 28 gauge camo shotgun that blends into blinds, fencerows and timber. The longer 28-inch barrel adds swing weight to a very light gun, which helps you stay smooth on passing birds.
How the Inertia Action Works
Like every ACE, the Retay ACE 28 Gauge Realtree Legacy 28 uses Retay’s Inertia Plus rotating bolt with full lock-up. An inertia semi-auto has no gas system, so there are no pistons or ports to clean and the gun stays light and simple. Inertia guns do need a short break-in and may not cycle very light target loads at first, so run full field loads through it early on.
Retay’s Easy Out system lets you unload the magazine tube without cycling shells through the action, and the trigger group drops out with a push button for cleaning after a muddy hunt.
Barrel and Six Choke Tubes
The Dead Straight deep bore drilled barrel and factory-lengthened forcing cone are designed to improve patterns; Retay says the long cone puts up to 20 percent more pellets on target. The Retay ACE 28 Gauge Realtree Legacy 28 ships with cylinder, improved cylinder, modified, improved modified and full chokes, plus an extended long-range waterfowl choke for steel shot. A single fiber optic bead sits up front.
Fit and Recoil
Length of pull is 14.5 inches, and a shim kit lets you adjust drop and cast. The Airy recoil reduction system takes up to 30 percent off felt recoil, which matters in a lightweight 28 gauge. An oversized reversible safety makes the gun easy for left-handed shooters to set up.

Before You Buy the Retay ACE 28 Gauge Realtree Legacy 28
28 gauge shells, especially steel waterfowl loads, cost more and are harder to find than 12 or 20 gauge, so check availability for the hunting you plan to do. Many waterfowl areas require non-toxic shot, and a 28 gauge has limited range with steel, so keep shots close. A gun this light will recoil more than a heavier 12 gauge, and the 28 gauge receiver is not drilled and tapped for an optic. Check state and federal plug rules for migratory birds.
