Description
The Q Boombox Pistol 12 Inch is a semi-automatic pistol chambered in 8.6 Blackout, with a 12 inch barrel with a 1:3 twist, an adjustable gas system and SR-25 pattern magazine compatibility. This listing is UPC 810152961100, and it ships with a 20 round magazine.
Q Boombox Pistol 12 Inch Overview
Q built the Boombox around the 8.6 Blackout cartridge from the start, rather than adapting an existing rifle. The result is a compact, suppressor-first gun that hits hard with heavy subsonic bullets and still reaches out with supersonic loads.
Barrel and Twist
The 12 inch barrel has a 1:3 twist, much faster than a typical rifle barrel. Q designed 8.6 Blackout around that twist so bullets become unstable quickly on impact, which is meant to deliver strong terminal performance even at subsonic speeds. The muzzle is threaded M18 x 1.5 and wears a Cherry Bomb XL device.
Adjustable Gas
An adjustable gas system lets you tune the gun for subsonic or supersonic ammunition and for shooting with or without a suppressor. Proper tuning keeps recoil soft, reduces gas in your face when suppressed and helps parts last longer.
Brace Equipped Pistol
This is the brace equipped pistol version of the Boombox, which keeps it compact without being a short barreled rifle. It measures 26.75 in. collapsed and 31.25 in. extended and weighs about 5 lb 8 oz. Federal rules on pistol braces have changed several times in recent years, so check current federal and state law before you buy.
Magazines and Controls
The Boombox takes SR-25 pattern magazines, which are widely available. Controls follow familiar AR patterns, so anyone who has run an AR-10 will feel at home.
Choosing Ammunition
8.6 Blackout ammunition comes in heavy subsonic loads for quiet, suppressed shooting and lighter supersonic loads for more range. It costs more and is harder to find than common calibers, so buy a supply of the load your gun runs best before you need it.
Suppressor Use
The Boombox is built to run suppressed, and the M18 x 1.5 thread and Cherry Bomb XL device are set up for a Q suppressor mount. Adding a suppressor requires an approved ATF Form 4 and registration, and suppressors are not legal in every state.
Cleaning and Care
Suppressed rifles run dirtier than unsuppressed ones, so clean the bolt and chamber more often when you shoot with a can. Keep the bolt lightly lubricated and check the gas setting whenever you change ammunition or add or remove a suppressor.
State Laws
Some states restrict semi-automatic rifles and pistols with certain features or magazines over 10 rounds, and some limit pistol braces. Check your state and local laws before you order. Pennsylvania buyers can transfer at our Collegeville shop or at any FFL.
