Description
The Stevens 301 Turkey XP 20 Gauge is a break-action shotgun with a 26-inch carbon steel barrel, a Mossy Oak Obsession camo synthetic stock, and a single-shot action. It weighs about 5.07 lbs.
Stevens 301 Turkey XP 20 Gauge Overview
Savage has built a reputation for accurate, dependable firearms at fair prices, and the Stevens 301 Turkey XP continues that tradition with practical features that matter in the field and at the range. It is the kind of gun that earns a permanent place in the safe because it simply works, shot after shot, without fuss or expensive upgrades. The 20 gauge offers lighter recoil and a lighter gun than a 12 gauge while still delivering plenty of payload for upland birds, turkeys, and small game.
Barrel and Action
The 26-inch carbon steel barrel has a matte finish.
Stock and Fit
The Mossy Oak Obsession camo synthetic stock is built to handle real-world use, and synthetic material will not swell or warp in rain or humidity. Length of pull is 13.75″. Overall length is about 41.5″.
Sights and Optics
A 1×30 red dot comes mounted and bore-sighted on a removable one-piece rail, so you can put the dot on a gobbler’s head quickly in low light. A front bead sight backs it up if you remove the optic, and an extra full choke tube is included.
Trigger
The factory trigger has a consistent, predictable pull that is easy to learn. Smooth trigger control and good fundamentals will let you get the most from this shotgun.
Single-Shot Operation
Because the gun holds one round at a time, every shot is deliberate, which makes it an excellent tool for teaching new shooters careful habits.
In the Field
Pattern the gun with the loads and chokes you plan to use so you know exactly how it performs at the distances you expect.
Key Features
Highlights from the factory spec sheet: Single shot, break action shotgun; Synthetic stock and fore end with Mossy Oak Obsession or Bottomland camo; 26 inch barrel optimized for Federal Premium® HEAVYWEIGHT TSS turkey loads; 3 inch chamber; Swivel studs on stock and fore end; Removable one piece rail; Front bead sight; Extra full choke included (Win. Choke pattern ½ 32UN).
Turkey Hunting Tips
Pattern your turkey gun at 20, 30, and 40 yards with the exact shell you plan to hunt with, and aim for the head and neck. Modern tungsten turkey loads deliver dense patterns from small-gauge guns, but they are expensive, so a few practice shells on paper are well worth it before opening morning. Know your effective range and wait for a clean shot.
Ownership and Value
A good shotgun should last for generations, and Savage backs its guns with a reputation for practical design and dependable function. Keep the action clean, store it properly, and this gun will be ready season after season. Parts, accessories, and service support are easy to find, which keeps ownership simple.
Care and Cleaning
A little routine care keeps the Stevens 301 Turkey XP 20 Gauge running smoothly. After each outing, wipe down exposed metal, clean the bore, keep moving parts lightly lubricated, and store the gun in a dry place.
