Description
The Savage B17 F Compact 17 HMR is a bolt-action rimfire rifle with an 18-inch sporter carbon steel barrel, a black synthetic compact stock, a 10-round rotary magazine, and a user-adjustable trigger. It weighs about 5.25 lbs and is built for accurate, dependable hunting.
Savage B17 F Compact 17 HMR Overview
The B17 F Compact is a light, short, and accurate 17 HMR bolt gun sized for smaller shooters, youth hunters, and anyone who wants a handy rifle for the truck or the fence line. The 17 HMR launches a light, fast bullet on a remarkably flat trajectory, which makes it a favorite for groundhogs, prairie dogs, crows, and other small varmints out past 150 yards.
Barrel and Action
The 18-inch carbon steel barrel is button rifled for uniform grooves and consistent accuracy, with a 1:9 twist matched to 17 HMR bullets. The sporter profile keeps the rifle light and well balanced for carrying in the field.
Stock and Fit
The modern, ergonomic composite stock is tough and weather resistant, and its 12.75-inch length of pull fits smaller-framed shooters and youth hunters comfortably. A top tang safety is easy to reach with your thumb.
Optics Ready
Two-piece Weaver-style bases come installed on the drilled and tapped receiver, so mounting a rimfire scope is quick and simple.
User-Adjustable Trigger
Savage’s user-adjustable AccuTrigger lets you set your own pull weight for a crisp, clean break with no creep. A light, predictable trigger makes a big difference when you are holding steady on a distant target, and the center safety blade helps prevent accidental discharge.
Magazine and Handling
The 10-round rotary magazine feeds smoothly and sits nearly flush with the stock, so it stays out of the way in the field.
In the Field
Rimfire rifles often prefer one load over another, so try a few brands of 17 HMR to see which groups best in your barrel. Pair the rifle with a quality rimfire scope and a steady rest, and you will be surprised how far you can make precise hits on small varmints.
A Great First Varmint Rifle
Light weight, a short length of pull, and mild recoil make this rifle an excellent choice for teaching a young hunter to shoot accurately. The flat-shooting cartridge forgives small range-estimation errors, so new shooters can focus on fundamentals like breathing, sight picture, and a smooth trigger press.
Care and Cleaning
Rimfire ammunition leaves more fouling than most centerfire loads, so a little routine care keeps the Savage B17 F Compact 17 HMR running smoothly and shooting accurately. After a range session, wipe down the bolt and chamber area, run a few patches through the bore, and put a light coat of oil on exposed metal. Store the rifle in a dry place and it will give you years of dependable service.
