Description
The Savage B17 FV-SR 17 HMR is a bolt-action rimfire rifle with a 16.25-inch heavy threaded carbon steel barrel, a black synthetic stock, a 10-round rotary magazine, and a user-adjustable trigger. It weighs about 5.6 lbs and is built for accurate, dependable shooting.
Savage B17 FV-SR 17 HMR Overview
The B Series FV-SR is a compact, suppressor-ready rimfire bolt gun with a heavy threaded barrel and a rail for optics, built for accuracy on the range and in the field. The 17 HMR launches a light, fast bullet on a remarkably flat trajectory, which makes it a favorite for groundhogs, prairie dogs, crows, and other small varmints out past 150 yards.
Barrel and Action
The 16.25-inch heavy carbon steel barrel is button rifled for consistent accuracy, with a 1:9 twist matched to 17 HMR bullets and a muzzle threaded 1/2-28 for a suppressor or muzzle device where local law allows. The heavy profile steadies the rifle and resists heat during long strings of fire.
Stock and Fit
The modern, ergonomic composite stock is tough, lightweight, and weather resistant, so it will not swell or warp in rain or humidity, and a top tang safety sits right under your thumb for quick, quiet operation. A 13.5-inch length of pull fits most adult shooters.
Optics Ready
A one-piece Picatinny rail comes installed, giving you a solid base for a rimfire scope or red dot.
User-Adjustable Trigger
Savage’s user-adjustable AccuTrigger lets you set your own pull weight for a crisp, clean break, a big advantage on small targets. The center safety blade helps prevent accidental discharge, and the light, predictable pull helps new shooters build good habits.
Magazine and Handling
The 10-round rotary magazine feeds smoothly and sits nearly flush with the bottom of the stock, so it stays out of the way when you carry the rifle or shoot from a rest. Spare magazines make range days more productive, and dropping the magazine makes unloading quick and safe.
In the Field
Rimfire rifles often prefer one load over another, so try a few brands of 17 HMR to see which groups best in your barrel. Lighter, faster bullets are great for small pests, while heavier bullets buck the wind better. Pair the rifle with a quality rimfire scope and a steady rest, and you will be surprised how far you can make precise hits.
Care and Cleaning
Rimfire ammunition leaves more fouling than most centerfire loads, so a little routine care keeps the Savage B17 FV-SR 17 HMR running smoothly and shooting accurately. After a range session, wipe down the bolt and chamber area, run a few patches through the bore, and put a light coat of oil on exposed metal. Store the rifle in a dry place and it will give you years of dependable service.
