Browning X-Bolt 2 Hells Canyon 7mm PRC Overview
The X-Bolt 2 is the second generation of the Browning X-Bolt, keeping the proven action while adding the DLX trigger and refined ergonomics. The X-Bolt 2 Hell’s Canyon McMillan LR is the second generation of this long range hunter, with a McMillan fiberglass stock in OVIX camo, Smoked Bronze Cerakote on the metal, a fluted heavy sporter barrel and a Recoil Hawg muzzle brake.
Action and Bolt
The long action X-Bolt action has a 60 degree bolt lift, so the bolt clears a low mounted scope and cycles quickly. A bolt unlock button lets you open the action with the safety on to unload safely. The top tang safety sits right under your thumb, and the detachable rotary magazine sits flush with the stock.
Barrel and Muzzle
The 24 inch steel barrel has a heavy sporter contour, a 1 in 8 inch twist and a 5/8 – 24 SR threaded muzzle. The barrel is free floated for consistent accuracy. A muzzle brake cuts recoil a lot, but it is loud, so always wear hearing protection and warn hunting partners beside you.
Trigger
The X-Bolt 2 uses the DLX trigger, which Browning designed for a crisp break with very little take up or overtravel and a pull that can be adjusted. A good trigger is a big part of long range accuracy.
Stock and Fit
The composite stock is finished in Ovix. Browning lists a 13 5/8 inch length of pull and a Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad. A synthetic or carbon stock does not swell or warp in wet weather, which keeps your zero steady.
The 7mm PRC
The 7mm PRC is a modern long range magnum built for heavy, high BC 7mm bullets, a strong choice for elk and long range shooting.
Scope Mounting
The receiver uses the Browning X-Lock scope mounting system, with four screws per base for a solid, secure hold under recoil. Pick a quality scope with enough magnification for the distances you plan to shoot, and practice at those ranges before the hunt.
Care and Value
Cerakote resists rust and scratches, but still wipe the rifle down after wet hunts and clean the brake and bore regularly. Premium X-Bolt models hold their value well on the used market.
State Laws
Bolt action rifles are legal in every state, though some states and areas limit hunting calibers and muzzle devices. Pennsylvania buyers can transfer at our Collegeville shop or at any FFL.
