Description

Glock 23 V MOS 40 S&W 13 Round striker fired pistol

The Glock 23 V MOS 40 S&W 13 Round is the compact 40 S&W that filled American police holsters for two decades, brought current with a factory optic cut. It shares its dimensions with the G19, so it carries and handles the same way, with a heavier bullet behind it and a red dot mounting solution built into the slide.

Glock 23 V MOS 40 S&W 13 Round Barrel, Slide and Frame

The 4.02 inch barrel is a Glock Marksman Barrel with the enhanced polygonal rifling and tighter crown introduced on Gen5. Because this is an MOS pistol, the slide is machined at the factory for a mini red dot and ships with adapter plates for the common footprints. Mounting a dot on a 40 caliber pistol is worth noting specifically: the sharper recoil impulse makes dot tracking more informative than on a 9mm, and it rewards a properly low mounting height.

The slide wears Glock’s nDLC surface treatment, a diamond like carbon coating applied to both slide and barrel that resists corrosion and abrasion far better than the older Tenifer process it replaced. Front serrations are cut alongside the rear ones so the slide can be worked from either end for a press check. The frame carries no finger grooves, which sounds like a small thing until a shooter with hands that do not match the mould tries the older design, and a flared magazine well funnels magazines in under stress.

What the V Series Changed

The V Series is Glock’s 2025 replacement for the Gen5 line, and from the outside almost nothing has moved. Grip texture, controls, ergonomics and trigger feel carry straight across, existing holsters still fit, and the shooting experience is the Gen5 experience. The changes are internal, centred on a redesigned firing pin channel and a reinforced rear trigger housing, and they exist to make the pistol substantially harder to tamper with illegally.

One consequence matters when buying parts: V Series internals are not cross compatible with Gen3, Gen4 or Gen5 components. Magazines and most external accessories carry over, but slide internals and some aftermarket trigger parts do not. Anyone planning modifications should confirm V Series fitment before ordering.

Safe Action and Controls

Underneath sits the Safe Action system Glock has used since 1982: three passive, independently operating mechanical safeties that disengage in sequence as the trigger is pressed and reset automatically when it is released. There is no manual safety lever to remember and no decocker, which is a large part of why the platform dominates duty holsters. The slide stop lever is ambidextrous and the magazine catch is reversible, so left handed shooters are accommodated without aftermarket parts.

Why Buyers Choose the Glock 23 V MOS 40 S&W 13 Round

Older 40 caliber pistols are largely stuck with iron sights unless the owner pays a gunsmith to mill the slide, which raises warranty and resale questions. A factory cut removes both concerns. Combined with ammunition that is now widely available and often cheaper than it was at the height of the caliber popularity, this is a straightforward way into a modern optic equipped 40.

The other reason is the ecosystem. No other handgun platform has the depth of holsters, sights, magazines and parts that Glock does, and buying into it means never hunting for support. Armourers everywhere know the design, and the manual of arms transfers to every other pistol in the line.

Who Should Buy It

The Glock 23 V MOS 40 S&W 13 Round suits the officer or civilian who prefers the 40 S&W terminal argument and wants a red dot, the shooter with existing 40 caliber magazines and ammunition who is upgrading, and the buyer who wants G19 dimensions, a larger bore and factory optics support.
