Description

The Glock 23 V 40 S&W 13 Round is the compact 40 S&W that spent two decades in more American police holsters than almost anything else. It shares its dimensions with the G19, so everything that makes that pistol carry and handle well applies here, with a heavier bullet and a sharper recoil impulse behind it.
Glock 23 V 40 S&W 13 Round Barrel, Slide and Frame
The 4.02 inch barrel is a Glock Marksman Barrel, using the enhanced polygonal rifling and tighter crown Glock introduced with Gen5. The 40 S&W cartridge works the slide harder than 9mm does, and the V Series carries forward the Gen5 recoil system and barrel profile that smoothed out the snappier impulse the early 40 caliber guns were known for.
The slide wears Glock’s nDLC surface treatment, a diamond like carbon coating applied to both slide and barrel that resists corrosion and abrasion far better than the older Tenifer process it replaced. Front serrations are cut alongside the rear ones so the slide can be worked from either end for a press check. The frame carries no finger grooves, which sounds like a small thing until a shooter with hands that do not match the mould tries the older design, and a flared magazine well funnels magazines in under stress.
What the V Series Changed
The V Series is Glock’s 2025 replacement for the Gen5 line, and from the outside almost nothing has moved. Grip texture, controls, ergonomics and trigger feel carry straight across, existing holsters still fit, and the shooting experience is the Gen5 experience. The changes are internal, centred on a redesigned firing pin channel and a reinforced rear trigger housing, and they exist to make the pistol substantially harder to tamper with illegally.
One consequence matters when buying parts: V Series internals are not cross compatible with Gen3, Gen4 or Gen5 components. Magazines and most external accessories carry over, but slide internals and some aftermarket trigger parts do not. Anyone planning modifications should confirm V Series fitment before ordering.
Safe Action and Controls
Underneath sits the Safe Action system Glock has used since 1982: three passive, independently operating mechanical safeties that disengage in sequence as the trigger is pressed and reset automatically when it is released. There is no manual safety lever to remember and no decocker, which is a large part of why the platform dominates duty holsters. The slide stop lever is ambidextrous and the magazine catch is reversible, so left handed shooters are accommodated without aftermarket parts.

Why Buyers Choose the Glock 23 V 40 S&W 13 Round
The 40 S&W still does something 9mm does not: it puts a heavier bullet downrange at similar velocity, which some shooters and some agencies continue to prefer. Ammunition is widely available and often cheaper than it was at the height of the caliber popularity, and the G23 is the platform most of the aftermarket support was built around. It also converts to 9mm with a drop in barrel if the owner changes their mind later.
The other reason is the ecosystem. No other handgun platform has the depth of holsters, sights, magazines and parts that Glock does, and buying into it means never hunting for support. Armourers everywhere know the design, and the manual of arms transfers to every other pistol in the line.
Who Should Buy It
The Glock 23 V 40 S&W 13 Round suits the officer or civilian who prefers the 40 S&W terminal argument, the shooter who already owns 40 caliber magazines and ammunition, and the buyer who wants G19 dimensions with a larger bore.
