Description
The EAA Girsan Witness2311 9mm Commander is a double-stack, 1911-style pistol with a 4.25-inch barrel, a 17-round magazine and an optics-ready slide, all in a plain black finish. It aims at the same idea as high-end 2011 pistols, a crisp single-action trigger with modern capacity, at a far more approachable price.
EAA Girsan Witness2311 9mm Commander Overview
Girsan manufactures the Witness2311 in Turkey and EAA imports it. This Commander-size version has a steel frame and slide, a polymer grip module, an extended beavertail, an ambidextrous thumb safety and an accessory rail. It measures about 8 inches long and EAA lists capacity at 17+1. The slide is cut for a red dot and the fixed contrast sights work well on their own. Earlier versions of this listing pictured the 10mm model; this is the 9mm version, MFG number 395030.
Capacity Meets 1911 Ergonomics
Classic single-stack 1911s hold eight or nine rounds of 9mm. The Witness2311 nearly doubles that with a double-stack magazine while keeping the familiar grip angle, thumb safety and short single-action trigger. The grip itself is slimmer than you might expect for the capacity and offers aggressive texture for a secure hold.
Why the Commander Length
A 4.25-inch barrel trims weight and length compared with a 5-inch Government model, making the pistol easier to carry and quicker to draw while keeping a useful sight radius. It is a practical middle ground for home defense, range work and outside-the-waistband carry.
Optics Ready
The slide is milled to accept a micro red dot. Confirm the footprint and any required mounting plate with EAA before buying an optic, use correct-length screws and thread locker, and recheck zero after the first range session. Shooters who prefer irons will find the contrast sights quick to pick up. A dot also makes the most of the shorter sight radius for shooters whose eyes struggle with iron sights.
Living with a Double-Stack 1911
These pistols reward attention to maintenance. Keep the gun lubricated, replace recoil springs on schedule and stick with quality magazines. Girsan magazines are specific to this platform, so buy spares from EAA rather than assuming other 2011 magazines will fit and run. Test your chosen defensive ammunition for reliable feeding before carrying it. Dry-fire practice with snap caps is an inexpensive way to master the thumb safety sweep on the draw.
Honest Trade-Offs
Holster selection is narrower than for mainstream striker-fired pistols, so confirm fit before you buy one. Resale value and aftermarket support trail established 2011 makers. Still, few pistols offer this capacity, trigger and optics option at this price.
State Laws and Ownership
A 17-round magazine exceeds limits in states such as California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Maryland, and Colorado caps magazines at 15 rounds. The pistol is not on the California roster. Pennsylvania has no magazine capacity limit and buyers complete the sale through a licensed dealer with a background check. Confirm your local rules before ordering.
