Description
The AGM PVS-7 3NL1 Night Vision Goggles (AGM item 12PV7123253011, UPC 810027770516) is a single-tube, dual-eyepiece night vision goggle built on the military PVS-7 pattern fitted with a Gen 3 Level 1 image intensifier tube with green phosphor. Gen 3 tubes use a gallium arsenide photocathode for higher sensitivity and longer service life than Gen 2+, so they perform better in the darkest conditions. Level 1 is AGM’s entry Gen 3 grade, and the distributor does not list this configuration as auto-gated.
AGM PVS-7 3NL1 Night Vision Goggles Overview
The PVS-7 layout uses one image intensifier tube that feeds both eyes through a bi-ocular eyepiece, so you view with both eyes open and avoid the strain of a monocular, while paying for only one tube. AGM’s version weighs about 1.5 pounds (0.68 kg), uses a 27mm F/1.2 objective lens with a 40 degree field of view at 1x, and focuses from 0.2 meters to infinity.
It runs on two AA alkaline batteries or one lithium BA-5567/U cell for up to about 60 hours, and the built-in infrared illuminator adds close-range light that is invisible to the naked eye. The goggle can be used handheld or worn on the included head mount, and it accepts an afocal magnifier lens for longer-range viewing.
Image Intensifier Tube
The 3NL1 configuration is the part of this listing that sets it apart from other PVS-7 versions: a Gen 3 tube with green phosphor. Note: photos show the PVS-7 housing, which is identical across tube options.
AGM grades its tubes by resolution and image cleanliness. For the exact resolution, figure of merit and blemish specification of the tube in this unit, check the AGM datasheet or ask us before you order.
Controls and Features
A single rotary switch controls power and the IR illuminator, and the eyepieces adjust for interpupillary distance and diopter from -6 to +2. An automatic bright-light cut-off and an in-view IR indicator help protect the tube and remind you when the illuminator is on.
Because one tube feeds both eyes, the image is the same in each eyepiece. That gives a relaxed, natural feel for walking, driving on private land or watching a field for long periods, but it does not provide the true depth perception of a dual-tube binocular.
What Is Included
The box includes the goggles, head mount assembly, medium and thick brow pads, eye cups, lens cap with daylight filter, shoulder strap, lens paper, sacrificial window, demist shields, user manual and a soft carrying case.
Who Benefits Most
This version suits buyers stepping up to Gen 3 sensitivity at the lowest Gen 3 price, rural landowners working under heavy cover or overcast skies, and hunters who want more performance than Gen 2+.
Honest Limitations
At about 1.5 pounds the PVS-7 is heavier than a PVS-14 monocular, so long sessions on a head mount call for a well-adjusted strap and some counterweight. It is not designed to sit behind a riflescope.
With a single tube there is no stereo depth perception. Night vision image intensifiers are export-controlled and sold for use within the United States. Check AGM’s current warranty terms before you buy.
