Leupold Freedom RDS Great 1 MOA Dot with AR Mount Included

Description

The Leupold Freedom RDS is a 34mm tube red dot with a 1 MOA dot, a BDC elevation dial and an AR specific mount supplied in the box. It has been listed here as LEUPOLD RDS RED DOT FREEDOM, which is the right words in the wrong order and tells you nothing about what it fits. Mag5 Firearms ships optics direct with no FFL transfer.

The Leupold Freedom RDS Runs a 1 MOA Dot

One minute of angle is a small dot for a red dot sight. Most carbine optics run 2 to 6 MOA, which is fast to find but covers a lot of target at distance. A 1 MOA dot covers one inch at 100 yards, so you can genuinely shoot small groups with it and use the full range of a 5.56 carbine rather than treating the optic as a close quarters tool.

The trade is pickup speed. A smaller dot takes fractionally longer to find under stress than a 6 MOA blob. If your rifle is purely for inside twenty five yards, a bigger dot is the better answer and we stock those too. The Leupold Freedom RDS is for the shooter who wants one optic to cover both.

The Leupold Freedom RDS BDC Dial

Elevation on the Leupold Freedom RDS is a BDC dial rather than a capped turret, so you can dial holdover for distance instead of guessing above the dot. Quarter MOA clicks, 15 MOA per revolution, 80 MOA of total travel in both elevation and windage. Windage is a plain finger click turret.

A BDC dial on a red dot is unusual and it is the feature that separates this from a simple tube sight. It is also why the 1 MOA dot makes sense: there is no point being able to dial to 400 yards through a dot that covers two feet of target when you get there.

Leupold do not publish a window size for the Leupold Freedom RDS, only a 34 millimetre tube diameter, so we are not going to quote one. If the size of the viewing window is what you are comparing on, call us and we will measure the one in the shop rather than repeat a figure from a distributor sheet.

Leupold Freedom RDS Power and Mount

A CR2032 gives roughly 1600 hours on low, 1000 on medium and 300 on high, across eight brightness settings that go daylight bright at the top. Motion Sensor Technology switches the dot off after five minutes without movement and brings it back the instant the rifle moves, which is what turns a 1000 hour figure into something you do not have to think about.

The AR specific mount is included. That matters on price: a lot of red dots at this level arrive bare and a decent mount adds meaningfully to what you actually pay. Eye relief is unlimited, as with any true red dot, so the Leupold Freedom RDS can sit anywhere on the rail that suits your setup.

A Note on the Leupold Freedom RDS Weight

Leupold own product page gives two different bare weights for this sight: 6.9 ounces in the specification table and 7.2 ounces in the description. Both figures agree that the complete package with mount, battery and BDC dial is 13.1 ounces.

We have printed the 13.1 ounce figure below because it is the one both sources agree on and it is what actually goes on your rifle. We are telling you about the discrepancy rather than quietly picking the lighter number, which is what a spec sheet copied from a distributor feed would have done.
