Description
The Smith Wesson 642 UC 38 Special G10 is what happens when people who actually carry snub-nose revolvers get to specify one. The Ultimate Carry series fixed the three things that have frustrated J-frame owners for decades: a front sight you cannot see, a rear notch that does not help, and grips that either hurt or print. This version wears G10 grips.

What the Ultimate Carry Series Changed
Three fixes, all of them things J-frame owners had been solving aftermarket for years. A tritium front sight big enough to find fast in poor light. A proper U-notch rear that frames the front sight instead of hiding it. And a cylinder cut for speed strips, so reloading does not require a speedloader that will not fit in a pocket anyway.
None of that is exotic. It is simply what a carry revolver should have had all along, and the Smith Wesson 642 UC 38 Special G10 is the version with G10 grips.
Everything else about the Smith Wesson 642 UC 38 Special G10 is a standard J-frame, so holsters and parts are the most available of any revolver on the market.
Why G10 Grips on the Smith Wesson 642 UC 38 Special G10
G10 is a layered composite — hard, textured and dimensionally stable. On a snub-nose revolver it does two things rubber does not. It stays slim, so the gun prints less in a pocket or under a shirt, and it does not grab cover garments the way rubber does when you draw.
The trade is that G10 transmits more recoil than rubber. On a lightweight 38 Special that is a real consideration, and it is the honest difference between this and the rubber-gripped version.
Shooting the Smith Wesson 642 UC 38 Special G10
Be realistic about what this is. The Smith Wesson 642 UC 38 Special G10 is a small, light revolver with a short sight radius and a long double-action trigger. It is easy to carry and hard to shoot well, and anyone who tells you otherwise has not shot one much.
It rewards practice more than almost any handgun. Standard-pressure 38 Special is pleasant enough; +P is sharp in a gun this light. Most owners carry +P and practise with standard.

Who the Smith Wesson 642 UC 38 Special G10 Is For
The carrier who wants a gun in the pocket every single day regardless of what they are wearing, and who accepts five rounds as the price of that. Also anyone who wants a backup to a larger pistol, since a revolver in a pocket is the classic answer to that problem.
If this will be your only gun and you are new to shooting, a compact semi-auto is easier to shoot well. A J-frame is an expert’s carry gun disguised as a beginner’s one.
Plenty of people buy the Smith Wesson 642 UC 38 Special G10 as a second or third gun precisely because it goes where a bigger pistol will not.
G10 or Rubber
We stock the Smith Wesson 642 UC 38 Special G10 alongside the rubber-gripped version at a lower price. Pick G10 if concealment and a clean draw matter most; pick rubber if you plan to shoot it a lot or you are recoil-sensitive. Neither is wrong — they optimise for different things.
Grips are also the easiest thing to change later, so this is not a permanent decision.
Ammunition, Speed Strips and Carry
Buy speed strips rather than speedloaders; the Smith Wesson 642 UC 38 Special G10 cylinder is cut for them and they carry flat in a pocket. Standard-pressure 38 Special for practice, quality +P defensive loads for carry, and run a few cylinders of your carry load so you know where it hits.
A proper pocket holster is not optional. It keeps the revolver oriented and covers the trigger.
We can include speed strips with the Smith Wesson 642 UC 38 Special G10 in the same order if you want them.
