Description
The Taurus GX4 Carry FDE is the Flat Dark Earth version of Taurus’s stretched micro-compact: a 3.70-inch black stainless barrel, an FDE Cerakote slide and frame with black controls, interchangeable backstraps, a Picatinny rail and ten rounds in a flush-fitting magazine.
The Carry frame is the reason to look at this rather than the standard GX4. It adds about half an inch of barrel and an inch of grip over the micro, so you get a full three-finger hold and meaningfully more velocity while staying narrow enough to carry inside the waistband. The Taurus GX4 Carry FDE is that gun in a colour that does not look like everything else in the case.
What is on the pistol
- A 3.70-inch black stainless barrel, left dark against the earth-toned slide.
- Flat Dark Earth Cerakote over both the alloy steel slide and the polymer frame, with the controls left black so they stand out.
- Interchangeable backstraps — two spares ship in the box, so the reach to the trigger on the Taurus GX4 Carry FDE fits the hand rather than nearly fitting.
- A Picatinny rail moulded into the dust cover, which the smaller GX4 micro frame does not have.
- Ten rounds plus one, flush-fit, with a trigger-blade safety and a striker block.

About the finish, honestly
- On the Taurus GX4 Carry FDE the Cerakote is a sprayed ceramic coating, not colour moulded through the polymer. A deep gouge will show the material underneath rather than more FDE.
- It is a genuinely tough coating, and applying it to both the steel slide and the polymer frame is the only way to match a colour across two different materials — moulded pigment cannot do that.
- Leaving the controls black is practical as well as cosmetic: the trigger, slide stop and magazine release stand out clearly against the frame.
- FDE hides dust, wear and handling marks far better than black, which is why it became a service colour in the first place.
- There is no price penalty for the finish on the Taurus GX4 Carry FDE.

9mm Luger is standardised by SAAMI, so this pistol runs on anything from cheap range ammunition to premium defensive loads without adjustment. A 3.70-inch barrel gives up noticeably less than a three-inch one, and loads designed to expand at short-barrel velocities work particularly well from it.
The same pistol in black is the GX4 Carry 10 Round, in Sniper Green the GX4 Carry Sniper Green, and with an optic cut the GX4 Carry TORO. For something smaller, the GX4 Micro; for something cheaper and larger, the GX2 in tan.
Why the Taurus GX4 Carry FDE earns its place
- The Taurus GX4 Carry FDE keeps a full-length grip inside a ten-round limit, on a pistol that still conceals like a micro.
- Cerakote over slide and frame, at a price where bare paint is the norm.
- Two spare backstraps in the box.
- A rail, which the micro GX4 frame does not offer.
- A colour that hides wear and dust rather than showing it.
This is an everyday carry pistol for someone in a ten-round jurisdiction who wants capacity and grip length without carrying a compact, and who would rather not own another black pistol. The trigger is decent rather than exceptional and the sights are plain; the Taurus GX4 Carry FDE competes on features for the money and on fitting a hand properly out of the box.
