Description

The Raging Hunter 357 6.75-inch two-tone is the barrel length that turns a .357 Magnum into a serious hunting handgun. Seven rounds, a matte stainless frame under a black anodized ported shroud with a full-length Picatinny rail, and a matte black oxide cylinder.

The Raging Hunter 357 6.75 is the largest frame Taurus builds carrying one of the mildest cartridges it chambers, which is precisely why it shoots the way it does. Recoil is modest, the sight radius is long, and an optic goes on without an adapter.

What the 6.75-inch barrel does for a .357

  • Velocity. A .357 Magnum finally gets the barrel it was designed around, rather than the two inches most people give it
  • A long sight radius with irons, and a long stretch of Picatinny rail if you would rather mount a red dot or a pistol scope
  • Dual-stage gas expansion ports in the top of the shroud, which on a cartridge this size make the muzzle almost still
  • Seven rounds rather than the usual six, which matters in silhouette and steel competition
  • Matte stainless frame, matte black oxide cylinder and black shroud in the two-tone finish
  • Cushioned rubber grip with a soft insert down the backstrap, inherited from the big-bore guns
  • .38 Special chambers and fires, so the Raging Hunter 357 6.75 is cheap to practise with

Raging Hunter 357 6.75 in. two-tone revolver with ported barrel and Picatinny rail

Why this is the sensible Raging Hunter

  • The Raging Hunter 357 6.75 costs a fraction of what the .460 and .500 guns cost to feed, and you will shoot it ten times as often
  • The big-bore recoil engineering is all here, applied to a cartridge that does not need taming, so the result is very flat
  • With a 158 or 180 grain load and a zeroed optic, this is a legitimate deer and hog gun inside seventy-five yards
  • For silhouette and steel it is arguably the best gun in the family: seven shots, long sight radius, mild recoil
  • It is still a large-frame revolver and it is heavy on a belt. A chest rig or a proper field holster is the answer
  • Ports are loud. Outdoors that hardly matters; on a covered range beside other shooters it does

.357 Magnum and .38 Special are both standardised cartridges, with chamber dimensions and pressure ceilings published by SAAMI. The magnum case is a tenth of an inch longer than the .38, which is why the shorter round chambers here and the longer one will not fit a .38-only revolver.

One practical note on cleaning. If you shoot a lot of .38 Special through this gun, carbon builds up both in the front of each chamber and inside the port holes. A chamber brush and a pass through the ports every few sessions keeps a Raging Hunter 357 6.75 shooting to the same point of impact. Neglect it and you will eventually find magnum cases will not seat and your groups have walked.

Why this revolver earns its place

  • Seven rounds of .357 Magnum with a factory optics rail
  • The barrel length the cartridge was actually designed around
  • Recoil mild enough that the Raging Hunter 357 6.75 can be shot all afternoon
  • Adjustable sights and a long sight radius, which is what produces groups
  • .38 Special for practice at a fraction of big-bore ammunition costs
  • Stainless frame and black oxide cylinder that handle wet weather well

Handgun hunters who do not want a punishing cartridge, silhouette and steel competitors, and anyone who has wanted a Raging Hunter but balked at feeding a .460 or a .500. The Raging Hunter 357 6.75 is the most practical revolver in the range and probably the one that gets shot the most.

For a shorter, handier gun in the same cartridge, the 5.12-inch two-tone and the 5-inch black are easier to carry.

Stepping up in calibre, the .44 Magnum at the same barrel length is the next rung, and the .454 Casull is a considerable jump beyond that. If you want .357 in a lighter package, the eight-shot Taurus 608 and the seven-shot Tracker 627 are the alternatives.

Every Raging Hunter we ship comes with the factory case, the manual and a lock. Transfers go to your FFL and our end of the paperwork is done the same day.
