Description
The Taurus Tracker 627 4in is the service-length version of the seven-shot 357, catalogued as 2-627049. Medium frame, matte stainless throughout, a 4-inch ported barrel, and a cylinder that takes seven rounds of 357 Magnum or 38 Special +P rather than the usual six.
Four inches is the length that makes a 357 useful for everything rather than good at one thing. It burns enough of the powder charge to deliver what the cartridge promises, keeps a sight radius long enough to shoot deliberately, and is still short enough to wear on a belt. The Taurus Tracker 627 4in is the one to buy if you only want one 357.
MAG5 Firearms has it in stock. Handguns ship to a licensed FFL on a signed 4473, and we coordinate the transfer with your dealer.
Seven rounds, four inches, ported
- Seven rounds of 357 Magnum, which is one more than almost anything else on a medium frame.
- A 4-inch barrel is the classic service length and the best all-round compromise the cartridge has.
- Factory porting vents gas upward and holds the muzzle down, which on full-power loads is very noticeable.
- Porting is loud. Shooting a ported revolver indoors or from a confined position is harder on the ears, so wear proper protection.
- The Taurus Tracker 627 4in also chambers 38 Special, so practice costs a fraction of magnum prices.

Build, grip and safety
- Matte stainless barrel, cylinder and frame, with no applied finish to wear through.
- A ribbed rubber grip with a soft insert down the backstrap, which is exactly where magnum recoil lands.
- Exposed hammer, so the Taurus Tracker 627 4in can be cocked for a light single-action press on a deliberate shot.
- Transfer bar safety blocks the firing pin mechanically until the trigger is fully pressed, so all seven chambers can be loaded.
- Adjustable rear sight, so the gun can be zeroed to a specific load rather than to whatever the factory tested.

For a longer barrel and more velocity, the 6.5-inch Tracker 627 is the hunting configuration. For a six-shot service revolver at the same length, see the Model 65, and the 692 Convertible adds a 9mm cylinder. Browse our other revolvers too.
Why this Tracker earns its place
- The Taurus Tracker 627 4in carries seven rounds where almost every medium-frame competitor carries six.
- Four inches is the length that lets one revolver serve as a range gun, a house gun and a trail gun.
- Porting makes full-power magnum loads something you can shoot a box of in one session.
- Stainless construction suits a revolver that will be carried outdoors as readily as on the range.
- Taurus backs it with a limited lifetime repair policy that follows the firearm rather than the original buyer.
This is the sensible choice for someone who wants one 357 and does not want to specialise. The Taurus Tracker 627 4in is heavy enough to shoot comfortably, accurate enough to be satisfying, short enough to carry on a belt, and cheap to practise with on 38 Special. If your shooting is mostly indoors, be aware the porting makes it loud; outdoors it is simply pleasant.
