Description
The Beretta 686 Sporting in 12 gauge, left hand, part number J686S1232BFL, is the longest barrelled left handed clays gun Beretta builds. The stock is cast on for the left shoulder and carries the B-Fast adjustable comb, so both the sideways and the vertical half of gun fit are solved from the factory. Barrels are 32 inches, blued with a vent rib, chambers are 3 inches, and the receiver is steel with silver engraving. The top rib is the wider 10 by 6 millimetre tapered sporting profile rather than the field rib.
Five flush Optima-Choke HP tubes ship in the case and the trigger is the single selective inertia unit.
Cast on, and why it is not optional
Cast is the sideways bend in a stock that brings the shooter’s eye over the rib. A right handed stock is cast off, away from the right cheek. This one is cast on, the mirror image.
Shooting a right handed stock from the left shoulder puts the eye inboard of the rib, which throws patterns left. It is very hard to correct with technique and most shooters never fully do.
B-Fast handles the other axis. Comb height sets how high the eye sits, and getting it right is what makes the sight picture repeat from mount to mount.
Left handed 686 Sportings are built in small numbers. A 32 inch left handed one with an adjustable comb is scarcer still.
