Description

A-Zoom 22 LR Training Rounds are machined aluminum dummy rounds in 22 Long Rifle, six to a pack. Rimfire firearms are the ones most reliably damaged by dry firing, because the firing pin lands on the chamber mouth instead of a rim, and that is exactly the problem these solve.
How A-Zoom 22 LR Training Rounds Work
Each round is CNC machined from solid aluminum to 22 LR dimensions. There is no priming compound and no separate case, just a one piece dummy cut to the same profile as a live rimfire cartridge so it chambers, feeds and extracts normally.
The rim is the working surface. Instead of a centre primer cushion, A-Zoom 22 LR Training Rounds give the firing pin a soft aluminum rim to land on, absorbing the strike that would otherwise peen the chamber mouth or crack a pin. Rotate the round to present a fresh section of rim once the current spot is marked up.
This is why rimfire training rounds are a different product from centerfire snap caps rather than the same thing in a smaller size. The failure mode is different, so the fix is different.
Why Rimfire Dry Fire Needs Them
On a centerfire gun, dry firing an empty chamber is usually harmless and occasionally hard on a pin. On a rimfire, the pin is aimed at the edge of the chamber, and repeated dry fire can burr the chamber mouth badly enough to affect extraction and accuracy. Some rimfire manuals prohibit dry fire outright for exactly that reason.
A six pack fills most 22 revolver cylinders and gives a semi-auto owner enough to load a magazine partway and run a full feed cycle. That is the difference between confirming a trigger resets and confirming the gun works.
Competitive rimfire shooters use them for a third reason. Steel challenge and precision rimfire both reward a huge volume of trigger repetitions, and doing that volume dry rather than live is the only affordable way to get it.

Field Notes
Older 22 rifles and revolvers benefit most. Chamber mouth damage from decades of dry firing is a common and expensive fault on used rimfires, and A-Zoom 22 LR Training Rounds cost a fraction of having a chamber recut.
They are also the right tool for teaching. A 22 is usually somebody first firearm, and loading, unloading and working the action with inert rounds builds the habits before any live ammunition appears.
Aluminum is soft, so the rim will show strike marks. Rotate the round when the current spot is well marked, and retire it once the whole rim has been worked over.
Shooting other rimfire chamberings? The line also covers 17 HMR, and centerfire snap caps are stocked in 38 Special among many others. Construction details are published by A-Zoom.
For anyone with a 22 rifle, pistol or revolver that gets dry fired, A-Zoom 22 LR Training Rounds are cheap protection. MAG5 Firearms stocks them as manufacturer item PA12208 in the six pack.
