Sauer 100 Classic XT 6.5 PRC – Superb Long-Reach Hunting Rifle, Threaded

Description

The Sauer 100 Classic XT in 6.5 PRC, model S1S65PT, takes the affordable German Classic XT and chambers it for the faster 6.5 Precision Rifle Cartridge. It has a 22 inch threaded barrel, matte blued metal, a black Ergo Max synthetic stock and a 4+1 detachable magazine. It is a straightforward, durable hunting rifle aimed at longer shots than a standard cartridge allows.

Sauer 100 Classic XT 6.5 PRC Overview

Built in Isny, Germany, the Classic XT uses a cold hammer-forged barrel and a three-lug bolt with a 60 degree throw. The magnum-length action feeds the 6.5 PRC from a double-stack magazine. Sauer lists magnum Classic XT rifles at around 6.9 pounds, and the same adjustable trigger and three-position safety found across the Sauer 100 line. The stock’s rear-sloping comb is shaped to keep your head in line with the scope under recoil.

6.5 PRC vs 6.5 Creedmoor

The 6.5 PRC drives similar bullets about 200 feet per second faster than the Creedmoor, giving a flatter path and more retained energy at long range. The cost is more recoil, more muzzle blast, shorter barrel life and pricier, less common ammunition. Buy it if you regularly face shots beyond 400 yards; otherwise the Creedmoor is easier to live with.

Barrel Length Note

Distributors list this model with a 22 inch barrel. Some European Sauer magnum barrels are longer, so a 22 inch 6.5 PRC will give up some velocity compared with published 24 to 26 inch ballistics. Chronograph your load before building a drop chart. The muzzle is threaded; confirm the pitch before buying a brake or suppressor mount.

Handling Recoil

In a rifle under 7 pounds the 6.5 PRC kicks noticeably. A good recoil pad, proper shooting form and a quality scope with generous eye relief help. A muzzle brake cuts recoil substantially but is very loud. Suppressors are NFA items requiring an approved ATF Form 4 and are not legal for hunting everywhere; MAG5 Firearms does not sell NFA items.

Safety and Trigger

The three-position safety locks the bolt fully rearward, allows unloading in the middle position and fires forward. The direct trigger is adjustable for weight, letting you set a crisp, predictable pull for precise shots. The detachable magazine makes it easy to clear the rifle at the end of a hunt.

Care and Durability

Matte bluing looks traditional but needs a wipe-down after wet days. The polymer stock handles weather well. Keep spare magazines on hand, use a quality bore guide when cleaning, and watch throat wear over time, since faster magnums wear barrels sooner than standard cartridges.

State Laws and Ownership

Bolt-action hunting rifles are legal in most states, but some states and localities restrict threaded barrels, require specific hunting calibers or limit suppressor use. Hunting regulations also vary by species and season. Pennsylvania permits the 6.5 PRC for deer, bear and elk in season. Check your state and local rules before you order.
