Description
The Derya DY9Z Purple 9mm is the purple framed version with the standard black slide, and it is the quieter of the two purple builds Derya offers. The frame carries the color and the slide stays conventional, which suits people who want something distinctive without a two tone.
What matters more than the color is that this is a full capacity micro compact. Fifteen plus one in a pistol an inch and a tenth wide was not something this class could offer a few years ago.
What the Derya DY9Z Purple 9mm actually is
- A striker fired 9mm Luger micro compact holding 15+1 with the supplied metal magazine.
- A 3.50 inch barrel in a pistol 6.5 inches long, 5 inches tall and 1.10 inches wide, weighing about 20 ounces.
- A purple polymer frame with an accessory rail, under a black optic ready slide with front and rear serrations.
- An RMSc footprint cut machined directly into the slide, so a micro red dot mounts without a plate.
- Three interchangeable backstraps in small, medium and large, supplied in the box.
- Fixed white dot front and white U-notch rear sights, a firing pin block and an anti-drop trigger block.

What to expect from recoil on the Derya DY9Z Purple 9mm
- Twenty ounces firing full power 9mm is a sharper impulse than a full size pistol produces, and nobody should pretend otherwise.
- The grip is short, so most hands get two fingers on it and the little finger tucks under the magazine. That is normal for the class.
- A high grip matters more here than on a larger gun. Get the web of the hand as close to the slide as the beavertail allows.
- Standard pressure practice ammunition is easier to learn on than defensive loads. Build the grip first, then confirm your carry load.
- Once the Derya DY9Z Purple 9mm is gripped properly it tracks far better than its size suggests, and the fifteen round magazine means you get to practice that.

Magazines for the Derya DY9Z Purple 9mm
Derya publishes the DY9Z sheet on its own site if you want the manufacturer view alongside ours: the DY9Z product page carries the same dimensions, trigger and optic cut printed above.

- The Derya DY9Z fifteen round magazine is the correct full capacity spare and the one the advertised 15+1 is based on.
- Glock 43X and 48 pattern magazines also drop in. Ten rounds, and cheap enough to buy several for practice.
- Steel fifteen round conversions such as the Shield Arms S15 are popular in the Glock 43X. Derya does not list them as approved for the DY9Z and using one may affect your warranty, so check with Derya first.
- For ammunition, CCI Blazer Brass 115 grain 9mm is the clean burning practice default.
- Stick to sights built around the RMSc footprint. A larger window dot can overhang the short slide and catch on clothing.
Purple, two ways
We list this color in two builds. This one has the standard black slide. The purple with the silver slide is the two tone version. Mechanically they are the same pistol and the choice is entirely cosmetic.
If neither shade suits, the DY9Z also comes in Flat Dark Earth and a deep black cherry red, both with the same black slide. Every one of them takes the same magazines, holsters, sights and parts, so picking a color costs you nothing in practicality.
Why the Derya DY9Z Purple 9mm earns its place
- Fifteen rounds at 1.10 inches wide is the specification that made the micro compact class worth revisiting.
- A direct RMSc cut takes a micro red dot with no plate and one less set of fasteners to check.
- Three backstraps means the grip on the Derya DY9Z Purple 9mm can be fitted rather than endured.
- Glock 43X and 48 magazines drop in, so cheap practice magazines sit alongside the factory one.
- Compliance note worth knowing: Derya lists the DY9Z as Maryland compliant, and not California or Massachusetts compliant.
The Derya DY9Z Purple 9mm suits the buyer who wants a distinctive frame without a two tone slide, and the carrier who refuses to give up rounds for size. It shares magazines, holsters and parts with every other DY9Z we list.
It is a micro compact and it recoils like one, so spend the ammunition to learn the grip before judging it. Every firearm on this page ships to your chosen FFL for transfer and pickup.
Setting up the Derya DY9Z Purple 9mm for carry
A holster is not optional on a pistol this size. A micro compact in a pocket without a holster is a trigger guard waiting for a key ring, and every serious injury involving a small pistol traces back to that.
Buy a holster cut for the DY9Z specifically rather than a generic pocket sleeve. The Derya DY9Z Purple 9mm has an accessory rail, and a holster that does not account for it will either sit loose or refuse to take the pistol at all.
If you are fitting a red dot, tell the holster maker. An optic adds height above the slide and most kydex is molded without the clearance for one.
Finally, carry the pistol before you commit to a position. An inch and a tenth of width disappears at four o’clock on most people and prints badly at three, and that is worth finding out at home rather than in a shop.
