Description
The Anschutz 1761 APR XRS 22 LR is a German-made bolt-action rimfire rifle built for precision rimfire competition and serious target work. It combines the Anschutz 1761 APR barreled action, a 21.4-inch threaded heavy barrel, and a black aluminum chassis with a full-length 30 MOA rail, giving you a rifle that is ready for long-range 22 shooting right out of the box.
Anschutz 1761 APR XRS 22 LR Overview
Anschutz has built match rifles in Ulm, Germany for generations, and its barrels and actions are found on Olympic and biathlon firing lines around the world. The 1761 is the company’s newest sporter-pattern action, and the APR version is tuned for the fast-growing precision rimfire (PRS and NRL22) game. This model drops that barreled action into an MDT XRS chassis, an aluminum platform with a folding-capable, adjustable stock design, plus room for accessories. The result is a rifle that fits like a centerfire precision rig while keeping the cheap practice and quiet report of 22 LR.
1761 APR Action
The action uses a sleeve-style receiver inspired by Anschutz match rifles, with high rigidity, a flat contact surface, and an integrated recoil lug. The bolt locks with three lugs and features a short 60-degree bolt throw so you can run the gun quickly in timed stages. A durable QPQ coating on the bolt gives smoother cycling, better wear resistance, and corrosion protection in bad weather. The bolt also disassembles easily for cleaning.
Heavy Barrel and Threaded Muzzle
The 21.4-inch heavy barrel is the real draw. Anschutz barrels have a well-earned reputation for accuracy, and the heavy contour stays stable as it warms up during long strings. The muzzle is threaded 1/2×28, so you can add a thread protector, brake, or rimfire suppressor. Remember that suppressors are NFA items and require an approved ATF Form 4, and they must also be legal in your state.
Trigger
Anschutz lists a 5061 D APR single-stage trigger, factory set at 750 grams and adjustable from 750 to 1,200 grams. Some distributor listings describe a two-stage trigger, so confirm the configuration if you have a strong preference. Either way, it is a clean, light, predictable trigger that is ideal for precise shot placement. The magazine release can be operated from either side.
Chassis, Rail and Optics
The aluminum chassis gives a stiff, consistent bedding platform, and the 30 MOA forward tilt on the full-length Picatinny rail gives you more elevation travel in your scope for long-range shots. There are no iron sights, so plan on a quality scope with good parallax adjustment for rimfire distances. A bipod and rear support bag complete a competition setup.
Magazine
The rifle feeds from a 10-round magazine made of stainless steel and high-performance polymer, built to resist dust, dirt, and water. Spare magazines are a good investment if you shoot timed matches.
Ammunition and Accuracy
Precision rimfire rifles are sensitive to ammunition. To get the most from this barrel, test several match-grade 22 LR loads and settle on the one that groups best. Bulk plinking ammo will run fine but will not show what the rifle can do.
State Laws
A few states regulate threaded barrels or certain chassis features. Check your local rules before ordering, and your receiving FFL dealer can help confirm the rifle is legal where you live.
