Black Rain We The People 556 Blue Overview
Black Rain Ordnance builds its rifles in Neosho, Missouri, and offers dozens of configurations and finishes across its rifle lines. The We The People rifle is part of its AR15 Series, with the opening words of the Constitution deep engraved on the receiver. It is a straightforward, reliable build with a Cerakote battleworn finish that stands out.
Receiver and Controls
The forged Spec 15 receiver set is machined from aluminum forgings, the same method used for mil-spec AR-15s, and the lower is deep engraved with We the People. The flat top upper has a full length Picatinny rail.
Barrel and Gas System
The 16 inch 4150V chromoly barrel runs a direct impingement gas system with a .750 low profile non adjustable gas block. Black Rain uses a salt bath nitride coated Spec 15 bolt carrier group in this rifle, which runs cleaner and is easier to wipe down than a plain phosphate carrier. The muzzle wears a castle flash suppressor, and a free float handguard keeps pressure off the barrel for better accuracy.
Handguard and Furniture
The 15 inch slim M-LOK free float handguard gives you M-LOK slots for a light, sling mount, bipod or grip. Furniture is a Magpul MOE grip and Magpul MOE stock. Black Rain notes that a Magpul MBUS Pro offset front sight may need modification to fit its slim handguards, so plan your backup sights accordingly.
Trigger
It has a mil-spec G.I. trigger, which is reliable and simple, with a heavier pull than an upgraded trigger. Because it uses the standard AR pattern, you can drop in an aftermarket trigger later if you want a lighter break.
The 5.56 NATO
The 5.56 NATO chamber also fires 223 Remington, so you can shoot inexpensive practice ammo and premium hunting or defensive loads in the same rifle. It is the most common rifle round in America and the standard for home defense, competition and varmint hunting.
Uses
The Black Rain We The People 556 Blue fits home defense, range days and varmint hunting. Add a red dot or a low power variable optic to the flat top upper and a weapon light on the M-LOK rail and it is ready for the range or the house.
Finish and Care
The Blue Battleworn finish is a deep blue Cerakote. Battleworn finishes are applied by hand over a black base coat and then worn back at the edges, so each rifle looks a little different. Cerakote is a ceramic based coating that resists corrosion, scratches and solvents better than paint. Clean the bolt carrier group and chamber every few hundred rounds, keep the BCG lightly oiled, and wipe the finish after handling.
State Laws
AR rifles and 30 round magazines are restricted or banned in some states, including California, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Illinois, Washington and Colorado for magazines. Check your state and local laws before you buy. Pennsylvania buyers can transfer at our Collegeville shop or at any FFL.
