Bergara Premier Canyon PRC Overview

Bergara built the Canyon because more hunters wanted a threaded muzzle on a light rifle. The thin taper of the Mountain 2.0 barrel cannot be threaded, so the Canyon uses a slightly heavier No. 4 taper and adds flutes to keep weight down. The result is a mountain rifle of roughly six and a half pounds that still runs a brake or a suppressor and backs it with a sub-MOA accuracy guarantee with quality factory ammunition.

Fluted Barrel and Omni Muzzle Brake

The premium stainless steel barrel is honed and rifled by Bergara, then fluted to shed weight and finished in Sniper Grey Cerakote to stand up to wet, humid backcountry days. The threaded muzzle ships with the Omni muzzle brake, which tames recoil in a light rifle; remove it and the same threads accept a suppressor.

Premier Action

The two-lug Premier action uses a separate floating bolt head for full contact with the lug abutments, a coned bolt nose for smooth feeding and a sliding plate extractor. The one-piece stainless bolt body has a threaded-in handle, and the bolt head, gas shield and shroud are nitrided. The receiver takes Remington 700 pattern scope bases with 8-40 screws.

AG Composites Carbon Fiber Stock

The carbon fiber stock is the same proven design used on the Mountain 2.0, now with a detachable magazine and a universal M5 inlet. It is light, stiff and unaffected by rain, snow or temperature swings, so the zero you set at home stays put on the mountain.

Reach of the 6.5 PRC

The 6.5 PRC pushes the same high-BC 6.5mm bullets as the Creedmoor roughly 200 feet per second faster, flattening trajectory and adding retained energy for elk and mule deer at long range. Recoil stays far below a 300 magnum, so it is easy to shoot well.

Packing for a Backcountry Hunt

Every ounce matters when you are carrying camp on your back. A light rifle frees up weight for water, food and warm layers, and a good sling with a quick-detach mount keeps your hands free on steep ground. Bring a small multi-tool, spare batteries for your rangefinder and a waterproof cover for the scope.

Choosing Ammunition

Test two or three premium hunting loads with bonded or monolithic bullets and choose the one that groups best from your barrel. Buy enough of a single lot to zero, practice and hunt with the same ammunition all season.

Setup and Optics

A lightweight 3-15x or 4-16x scope in quality low-profile rings keeps the package balanced. Zero at 100 yards, then confirm drops at 300, 400 and 500 yards with the exact load you will hunt with.

Practice in the Field

Light rifles reward good fundamentals. Practice from a pack, from shooting sticks and from sitting so the rifle feels steady in real field positions long before opening day.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Clean the bore with a quality copper solvent every few range sessions and after each hunt, wipe the bolt and lugs, and keep a light coat of grease on the locking lugs. Check action screw torque before every season.

Safe Storage at Home

Store the rifle unloaded in a locked safe or cabinet with ammunition kept separately, and teach everyone in the household basic safety rules.
