Browning X-Bolt Mtn Pro Tungsten 24 Overview
The X-Bolt is the Browning flagship bolt action, known for accuracy, a short 60 degree bolt lift and a crisp trigger. The Mountain Pro Tungsten is built for steep country where every ounce counts, with a carbon fiber stock, a stainless steel fluted sporter barrel, a spiral fluted bolt and Tungsten Cerakote on the metal.
Action and Bolt
The short action X-Bolt action has a 60 degree bolt lift, so the bolt clears a low mounted scope and cycles quickly. A bolt unlock button lets you open the action with the safety on to unload safely. The top tang safety sits right under your thumb, and the detachable rotary magazine sits flush with the stock.
Barrel and Muzzle
The 24 inch stainless barrel has a sporter contour, a 1 in 7 1/2 inch twist and a M13 – 0.75 threaded muzzle. The barrel is free floated for consistent accuracy. A muzzle brake cuts recoil a lot, but it is loud, so always wear hearing protection and warn hunting partners beside you.
Trigger
The Feather Trigger is adjustable and breaks crisply with very little creep, which helps you make precise shots at long range.
Stock and Fit
The carbon fiber stock is finished in Accent graphics/Carbon Fiber. Browning lists a 13 5/8 inch length of pull and a Inflex 1, Small recoil pad. A synthetic or carbon stock does not swell or warp in wet weather, which keeps your zero steady.
The 6.8 Western
The 6.8 Western is a newer short action magnum that fires long, heavy 270 caliber bullets, which carry energy well at long range for elk and mule deer. Factory ammo is not as common as 6.5 Creedmoor or 270 Win, so stock up before your hunt.
Scope Mounting
The receiver uses the Browning X-Lock scope mounting system, with four screws per base for a solid, secure hold under recoil. Pick a quality scope with enough magnification for the distances you plan to shoot, and practice at those ranges before the hunt.
Care and Value
Cerakote resists rust and scratches, but still wipe the rifle down after wet hunts and clean the brake and bore regularly. Premium X-Bolt models hold their value well on the used market.
State Laws
Bolt action rifles are legal in every state, though some states and areas limit hunting calibers and muzzle devices. Pennsylvania buyers can transfer at our Collegeville shop or at any FFL.
