Description
The Diamondback DB15 5.56 NATO is a straightforward, well-specified AR-15 at a price that makes the specification surprising. Sixteen inches of nitride-treated chrome moly barrel, a fifteen-inch M-LOK handguard, Magpul MOE stock and grip, and an A3 flattop upper on a DB-15 lower.
Nothing here is exotic and nothing here is cheap in the wrong places. The Diamondback DB15 5.56 NATO is the rifle you buy when you want a working AR that does not need parts thrown at it before it is useful.
What the specification actually gives you
- The Diamondback DB15 5.56 NATO carries a fifteen-inch M-LOK handguard, nearly the full length of the barrel and leaves room for a light, a bipod and a hand stop wherever you want them.
- Nitride treatment on the barrel rather than a plain finish, which resists corrosion inside the bore as well as out.
- Magpul MOE stock and grip fitted from the factory, so two of the three parts most people replace are already the ones they would have bought.
- An A3 flattop upper with a full-length rail, so an optic mounts anywhere along it.
- Hard coat anodized finish, which is the mil-spec standard rather than a painted alternative.

Caliber, barrel and what to expect
- Chambered 5.56x45mm NATO, which also lets you shoot 223 Remington safely; the reverse is not true, so never put 5.56 in a 223-marked chamber.
- Sixteen inches on the Diamondback DB15 5.56 NATO is the shortest barrel a rifle can have without an NFA stamp, and it is the length most AR shooters settle on.
- An A2 flash hider is fitted, which does its job and is a standard 1/2 x 28 thread if you want to change it.
- Thirty-round capacity with standard AR magazines, which are among the cheapest and most available magazines made.
- A medium-profile barrel, which is a sensible middle ground: steadier than a pencil barrel and lighter than a bull.

5.56 NATO and 223 Remington are standardized, with pressure and dimensional limits published by SAAMI. The distinction matters: a 5.56 chamber will safely fire 223 Rem, but a rifle marked 223 Rem should not be fed 5.56. The Diamondback DB15 5.56 NATO is marked 5.56, so both are fine in it.
For defensive use in the Diamondback DB15 5.56 NATO, Hornady Critical Defense 55 gr FTX is designed around short-barrel performance, and the 73 gr FTX is the heavier option. Magazines are the other early purchase: a Magpul PMAG MOE 30-round is the default, and an ATI Schmeisser 60-round with a window is the high-capacity option where legal.
If you want to compare, the Radical Firearms RPR in 16 inch is the other high-volume value AR in the catalogue.
A word on state law: several states restrict AR-pattern rifles by feature, by name or by magazine capacity, and the rules change. Tell us where the rifle is going and we will check before we take the order rather than after.
Why the Diamondback DB15 5.56 NATO earns its place
- Magpul MOE furniture and a 15-inch M-LOK handguard already fitted, which is most of what people upgrade first.
- A nitride barrel rather than a bare one, which matters over a few thousand rounds.
- 5.56 chambering, so both 5.56 and 223 are on the menu.
- Standard AR magazines and parts, which are the cheapest and most available of any platform.
- A complete, working rifle at a price where many competitors are selling you a starting point.
Be clear about what this is not. The Diamondback DB15 5.56 NATO is not a precision rifle and it does not have a match trigger, a free-float tension barrel or an adjustable gas block. If you are chasing half-minute groups, this is the wrong shelf.
What it is, is an honest general-purpose AR: good furniture, a useful handguard, a sensible barrel, and change left over for an optic and a case of ammunition. For a first AR, a truck rifle or a training gun that will be shot a great deal, that is exactly the right set of priorities.
