Description
The Radical Firearms RPR 5.56 is a complete 16-inch AR-15 that arrives with the parts most people end up replacing already fitted. The handguard is a 15-inch free-float M-LOK rail rather than the stubby plastic one, the stock is a B5 Bravo, the grip is a B5 Type 23, and the barrel is Melonite-treated and threaded at the muzzle.
That matters because the usual path with a budget AR is to buy it, then spend another two hundred dollars getting it to this specification. Here it is already done.
Part number FR16556SOC15RPR, UPC 816903022823. Deep stock – this is the single largest holding in the shop.
What comes on the Radical Firearms RPR 5.56
- 16-inch black Melonite steel barrel, threaded 1/2×28 at the muzzle, 1:7 twist
- 15-inch free-float M-LOK handguard covering almost the full barrel length
- Black anodized aluminium upper and lower with a full-length Picatinny rail on top
- B5 Systems Bravo six-position collapsible stock
- B5 Systems Type 23 P-Grip
- 30+1 capacity in 5.56 NATO
- Mid-length gas system and an A2 flash hider fitted
- MIL-STD charging handle and carbine buffer tube

Why the 15-inch handguard is the headline feature
- The Radical Firearms RPR 5.56 handguard does not touch the barrel, so pressure from a bipod, a sling or a barricade does not push the barrel around and shift your point of impact
- Fifteen inches of it means you can put your support hand as far forward as you can reach, which is how modern rifle shooting is taught
- M-LOK slots run the full length, so lights, hand stops, bipods and sling mounts attach directly with no rail sections in the way
- It covers the gas block, which keeps your hand off the hottest part of the rifle
- Most sub-six-hundred-dollar ARs ship with a seven-inch drop-in guard. Replacing one costs a hundred and fifty dollars and an hour with a barrel nut wrench

The threaded muzzle
The Radical Firearms RPR 5.56 barrel is threaded, so a muzzle brake, compensator or flash hider fits directly. A brake on a 5.56 makes very little difference to recoil – there was not much to begin with – and makes the rifle considerably louder for everyone beside you. A flash hider is the more sensible choice on a 16-inch gun.
A suppressor is a National Firearms Act item and requires ATF approval before you can take possession of it. MAG5 Firearms does not sell NFA items; if that is the plan, arrange it through a dealer who handles those transfers. The rifle itself is an ordinary long gun and ships to your FFL in the normal way.
5.56 NATO and .223 Remington
A 5.56 NATO chamber safely fires both 5.56 and .223 Remington. The reverse is not true – 5.56 ammunition should not be fired in a rifle chambered only for .223, because 5.56 is loaded to higher pressure and the chamber throat is cut differently. This rifle is chambered in 5.56, so both are fine. Specifications for both are published by SAAMI.
For volume practice the 55-grain loads are the cheapest thing that works – we stock Sterling M193 55gr and Federal 5.56 55gr FMJ, both by the case.
What else to look at
In the same class the Smith & Wesson M&P15 Sport III is the obvious comparison, and the American Tactical Alpha Maxx is another complete build worth a look. If a rifle-calibre AR is more than you need for plinking, the Ruger 10/22 will cost you a tenth as much per round to shoot.
Why the Radical Firearms RPR 5.56 earns its place
- A 15-inch free-float M-LOK rail on a rifle at this price is genuinely unusual
- B5 stock and grip, which are what a lot of people fit to a stock AR as their first upgrade
- Melonite barrel treatment, which is a hard, corrosion-resistant surface inside and out
- Nothing needs buying on the Radical Firearms RPR 5.56 before you can mount an optic, a light and a sling
- The deepest stock position in the shop, so no waiting
Two honest points. First, this is a direct impingement AR built to a price – the trigger is a standard mil-spec unit and it feels like one. A drop-in trigger is the upgrade that will change your shooting most, and it is worth budgeting for.
Second, no sights are included. The receiver has a full-length rail so a red dot, an LPVO or a set of irons all mount straight on, but you need to buy them.
With those two things understood, the Radical Firearms RPR 5.56 is a lot of rifle for the money, and the free-float rail puts it ahead of the entry-level guns it competes against on price. MAG5 Firearms ships long guns to your FFL.
State restrictions on the Radical Firearms RPR 5.56
The distributor flags this model as no direct ship to Rhode Island or Washington, and no sale to Illinois under PICA.
