Buffalo Bore’s Premium Supercharged 375 H&H drives a 270 grain Barnes Triple Shock X to 2750 fps for roughly 4533 ft-lbs. Description

The Buffalo Bore 375 H&H 270gr Barnes TSX is a classic cartridge loaded to what it can actually do. A 270 grain solid copper bullet at 2750 fps carries about 4533 ft-lbs, which is more than most factory 375 ammunition produces, and the monolithic construction means that energy is still working several feet into an animal.

Buffalo Bore 375 H&H 270gr Barnes TSX Overview

Buffalo Bore item 54C is part of their Premium Supercharged line. The 270 grain Barnes TSX runs 2750 fps for roughly 4533 ft-lbs. Twenty rounds per box.

The 375 Holland and Holland Magnum dates to 1912 and has outlived nearly everything introduced alongside it. It remains the legal minimum for dangerous game in much of Africa and the default choice for Alaskan brown bear, because it does more than a 30 calibre and recoils less than the true big bores.

Buffalo Bore lists this load for all North American game including Alaskan game, which is the whole point of a 375 in the first place: one rifle that does not need swapping out when the animal changes.

Buffalo Bore built the Premium Supercharged line around a simple idea: most factory ammunition is loaded conservatively to suit the weakest rifle that might chamber it. Given modern actions and careful pressure work, there is room to do better, and supercharged dangerous game ammunition is what that room looks like in practice.

375 H&H Magnum Lead Free Ammo Ballistics

At 2750 fps a 270 grain bullet produces about 4533 ft-lbs, from grains times velocity squared divided by 450437. Standard factory 375 H&H with a 270 grain bullet typically runs 2650 fps for around 4210 ft-lbs, so the supercharged loading adds roughly three hundred foot pounds.

The 270 grain weight is the flatter shooting end of the 375 range. It trades a little sectional density against the traditional 300 grain bullet for meaningfully better trajectory, which matters on open country elk and moose.

Recoil is significant but famously manageable for the energy delivered. That reputation is a large part of why the cartridge has lasted more than a century when harder hitting rounds have come and gone.

Trajectory holds up well. With a two hundred yard zero a 375 H&H Magnum lead free ammo load at 2750 fps stays usable well past three hundred, which is further than most people will shoot an animal this cartridge is meant for.

Why The 270 Grain Barnes Triple Shock X Bullet Holds Together

The Barnes Triple Shock X is turned from solid copper bar stock. There is no lead core and no jacket, so there is no interface that can separate when the bullet meets heavy bone at 2750 fps. The hollow nose peels into four petals that stay attached to the shank.

Weight retention runs ninety five percent or better as a rule. A conventional cup and core bullet at this velocity can shed a third of its mass into fragments, and fragments do not reach the far side of a moose.

Copper is less dense than lead, so a 270 grain TSX is physically longer than a 270 grain lead cored bullet. Barnes machines relief grooves into the shank to manage the extra bearing surface, which keeps pressure and copper fouling under control.

What that produces is a bullet that expands to roughly twice its diameter and still penetrates like a solid. On a 375 H&H that combination is exactly right, because the cartridge gets used on animals ranging from deer to coastal brown bear.

Accuracy is generally very good. Machined bullets vary far less in weight and concentricity than swaged ones, and the 270 grain Barnes Triple Shock X bullet has a reputation for grouping tightly in rifles that shoot lead cored bullets indifferently.

It comes back to construction every time. A 270 grain Barnes Triple Shock X bullet has nothing inside it that can come apart, and that single fact is what lets one load cover deer through brown bear.

Rifles That Take This All North American Game Rifle Load

Any rifle chambered in 375 H&H Magnum in sound working order will handle this load. That covers the Winchester Model 70 and Ruger Hawkeye African, CZ 550 and 600 rifles, Kimber Caprivi, Sako, Remington 700 variants and the many custom Mauser actions built for the cartridge.

The belted case headspaces on the belt rather than the shoulder, which is why the 375 feeds so smoothly in a controlled round feed action even at awkward angles. That reliability is part of why professional hunters have trusted it for a century.

Because it is lead free, this load also satisfies the regulations in California and anywhere else that restricts lead ammunition for hunting. You are not giving up performance to comply.

Sight in with the exact ammunition you intend to hunt with. An all North American game rifle load at 2750 fps lands in a different place from a 300 grain factory load at 2530, and the difference grows with distance.
