Why a Light Copper Bullet in 350 Legend
The 350 Legend was designed for states that allow straight-wall cartridges for deer, and it has become a favorite in AR-15 and bolt-action rifles alike. Most factory loads use 145 to 180 grain lead core bullets. DoubleTap takes a different route with a lighter 140 grain all-copper hollow point that runs fast and holds together.
A solid copper bullet has no lead core to separate from a jacket. When it hits, the nose opens into petals while the shank keeps driving forward, so the bullet retains most of its weight. That is why DoubleTap can report 36 inches of penetration in gel, a depth that reaches vitals on hogs and deer from almost any angle.
The lighter bullet also helps trajectory. At about 2,285 fps from a 16 inch barrel, this load shoots flatter than heavier 350 Legend bullets, which makes holdover simpler at typical woods and field distances. Recoil stays mild, a big part of why the cartridge is popular with new and young hunters.
Because the bullet is lead free, this 350 Legend lead free ammo also works in areas that require nonlead projectiles. DoubleTap ammunition is known for careful quality control, and this load gives straight-wall hunters a copper option that is built to penetrate.

Field Notes and Hunting Tips
Zero your rifle with this exact load. Copper bullets are longer than lead bullets of the same weight and often print to a different point of impact, so a zero from another brand will not transfer. Confirm at 50 and 100 yards before the season.
Clean your bore with a copper solvent after range sessions. Monolithic bullets can build copper fouling faster than lead core bullets, and a clean barrel helps the first shot of the hunt land where your groups did.
Deep penetration means this 350 Legend hunting ammo will often pass through deer and hogs. Aim for the heart and lungs just behind the shoulder, know what is behind your target, and give the animal time before tracking.
Check your state’s straight-wall and nonlead regulations before you hunt. Store spare boxes in a cool, dry place away from solvents and lubricants.
This load is a strong fit for deer and hog hunters running a 350 Legend AR or bolt gun, especially in straight-wall and nonlead areas. It also suits shooters who want a deep-penetrating round for defense against large animals. If you want 350 Legend hunting ammo with a lead free bullet that stays together, the DoubleTap 350 Legend 140gr Lead Free is a proven choice.
Want a heavier copper option? The Barnes VOR-TX 350 Legend 170gr TSX is a strong alternative, and more load details are available from DoubleTap Ammunition.
