Description

Underwood 10mm 150gr Xtreme Hunter is the load you carry when the 10mm is a hunting or backcountry gun rather than a concealed carry pistol. The 150 grain Lehigh Xtreme Hunter is a solid copper monolithic bullet with a fluted nose, driven to 1425 fps for 676 ft-lbs and loaded in nickel plated brass. Twenty rounds to the box, made in the United States.

What the Xtreme Hunter Bullet Does
The Xtreme Hunter is built on the same fluted solid copper principle as the Xtreme Defender, but with a longer nose profile and a heavier bullet aimed at penetration rather than a wide shallow wound. The flutes drive fluid outward as the bullet passes, producing a wound channel considerably larger than the 0.400 inch bullet diameter, while the solid copper body refuses to deform and keeps tracking straight through bone.
That combination is what makes this a serious 10mm Auto hunting ammo choice. A conventional expanding bullet trades penetration for expansion, and on a quartering shot into a hog shield or through the shoulder of a black bear that trade can leave you short of the vitals. A monolithic solid does not have that failure mode. It will not expand, and it does not need to.
Recoil is firm but predictable. At 1425 fps a 150 grain bullet is comfortably inside what a Glock 20, Glock 40 or a steel framed 10mm 1911 handles without drama, and it is noticeably easier to shoot fast than a 200 grain hard cast load at similar energy. For a trail gun that has to be carried all day and shot quickly, that balance is the point.

Nickel plated brass cases are what distinguish the Platinum Edition line. They resist corrosion from sweat and humidity, which matters for ammunition that lives in a chest holster through a wet season. They remain boxer primed and reloadable, though plating shortens useful case life relative to plain brass.

Honest Notes on This Load
Function test before you trust it. Monolithic bullets sit longer in the case than lead core bullets of the same weight and the nose profile is unusual, so feeding is pistol specific. Put at least fifty rounds of Underwood 10mm 150gr Xtreme Hunter ammunition through the exact gun and magazines you intend to carry before it goes into the woods with you.
Understand what a solid does and does not do. It penetrates deeply and predictably, which is exactly what you want on game, and exactly what makes it a poor choice for a home defense gun in an apartment. If the same 10mm serves both roles, keep two different loads and label them clearly.
Bear defense deserves a specific note. Plenty of people carry 10mm in bear country and this load penetrates well, but no handgun cartridge is a reliable stopper on a large bear, and bear spray remains the better first option in almost every documented encounter. Carry the pistol as a backup to spray, not as a substitute for it.
Finally, the price. Machined solid copper bullets cost more than swaged lead core, so nobody practises with this. Buy a box, confirm function and point of impact against your practice load, and carry the rest. If your zero shifts noticeably between the two, adjust your expectations rather than your sights.
For a lighter, faster defensive load in the same line see the 115 grain Xtreme Defender, and for snakes on the trail we stock a 10mm bismuth shotshell. Published data is on the Underwood Ammo product page.
Underwood 10mm 150gr Xtreme Hunter suits hog hunters, backcountry hikers and anyone running a Glock 20, Glock 40, Ruger SR1911 10mm or a 10mm carbine who wants deep penetration from a manageable load.
