Description
The Barnes VOR-TX LR 7mm Rem UM 145gr LRX BT is the fastest load in the Barnes long range lineup. An all copper LRX leaves the muzzle at roughly 3350 fps behind a 0.449 ballistic coefficient, which works out to approximately 3610 ft-lbs of energy. The 7mm Remington Ultra Magnum is a specialist cartridge, and this is a bullet built to take advantage of everything it offers. Each box holds 20 rounds.

Barnes VOR-TX LR 7mm Rem UM 145gr LRX BT Overview
The LRX is the long range member of the Barnes copper family, and the difference from a TTSX is functional rather than cosmetic. The hollow cavity beneath the polymer tip is deeper and shaped to open at considerably lower impact velocities, down around 1600 fps instead of the 2000 or so a standard copper hunting bullet needs.
That is the design problem the LRX exists to solve. Copper needs speed to peel back into petals, and a bullet arriving at 700 yards is travelling far slower than one arriving at 100. A standard monolithic design eventually stops opening and simply punches a caliber sized hole.
145 Grain LRX Boat Tail Performance
At 145 grains this is light for a 7mm long range bullet, which is a deliberate trade. Barnes uses the weight saving to push velocity to 3350 fps, and in a cartridge with this much powder capacity the flat trajectory and the extra distance before the bullet drops below its expansion threshold are worth more than the modest BC penalty.
Barnes machines relief grooves into the bearing surface of the Barnes VOR-TX LR 7mm Rem UM 145gr LRX projectile. Those grooves lower pressure in a case already running near its ceiling and reduce the copper fouling a long solid bullet at this velocity would otherwise leave in the bore.
Why Hunters Choose 7mm Rem Ultra Magnum Ammo
The 7mm Remington Ultra Magnum is the largest 7mm in common production, built on the beltless Ultra Mag case with far more powder capacity than a 7mm Remington Magnum. It is a genuine open country cartridge for elk, mule deer and moose where the shot may simply not be available at closer range.
What this 7mm Rem Ultra Magnum ammo does well is arrive with velocity still in hand. Trajectory is manageable with any modern drop chart, but keeping a copper bullet above its expansion threshold at 600 or 700 yards takes real muzzle velocity, and that is where the case earns its keep.
The costs deserve stating plainly. Barrel life is short, often in the 1000 to 1500 round range. Muzzle blast is severe. Factory ammunition is expensive and not stocked everywhere, so buy enough of one lot to cover practice and a season.

Range Notes For This All Copper Long Range Bullet
Chronograph your rifle. Published velocity comes from a test barrel, and barrel length and throat condition both move the figure. At the distances this load is built for, a small error at the muzzle becomes a large one downrange.
An all copper long range bullet is long for its weight, so check your twist rate. Most 7mm RUM barrels run 1 in 9, which stabilizes a 145 grain LRX without trouble. Confirm it with a group at distance rather than a 100 yard target.
Zero with this exact load and foul a clean barrel first. Let the barrel cool between strings, because this case runs hot and throat erosion is what ultimately limits its life. The Barnes VOR-TX LR 7mm Rem UM 145gr LRX stays above its expansion threshold well past 700 yards from a full length barrel.
