Description

The 300 Norma Magnum earned its reputation in Extreme Long Range competition and then went to work with special operations units. The Berger 300 Norma Mag 215gr Hybrid Target is the lighter and faster of Berger two main offerings in the cartridge, trading a little ballistic coefficient for velocity.

Why This Cartridge Owns Extreme Long Range
The 300 Norma Magnum takes the 338 Norma case, necks it to 30 caliber, and gives a long heavy bullet enough powder behind it to stay supersonic well past 1500 yards. That is the entire design brief, and it is why the US Special Operations Command adopted the cartridge for its Advanced Sniper Rifle program rather than sticking with the 300 Win Mag.
Berger loads the Berger 300 Norma Mag 215gr Hybrid Target with a 215 grain Hybrid Target bullet at 3017 feet per second from a 26 inch barrel, which works out to 4346 foot-pounds at the muzzle. At 400 yards it is still moving 2491 feet per second and carrying 2963 foot-pounds, which is more retained energy than most cartridges start with.
The ammunition is assembled by Capstone Precision Group with premium 300 Norma brass, a temperature-stable powder and a match-grade primer. Temperature stability matters more than it sounds for a cartridge meant to be dialed rather than held: a powder that shifts 40 feet per second between a cold morning and a hot afternoon puts you off at a mile.
Berger 300 Norma Mag 215gr Hybrid Target Specifications
The Hybrid ogive is the technical heart of the bullet. A tangent ogive is forgiving of seating depth but has a poorer form factor; a secant ogive is more efficient but fussy about how far off the lands it sits. Berger blends the two, so the bullet gives up very little drag while staying tolerant of seating variation. For a factory load that is worth real accuracy, because you cannot tune seating depth in a boxed round.
The 215 grain sits between Berger 230 grain and 245 grain offerings. It gives up ballistic coefficient to both and gains velocity over both. In practice the Berger 300 Norma Mag 215gr Hybrid Target shoots flatter inside about 1200 yards while the heavier bullets take over past that, so the right choice depends on whether your matches are ELR or merely long.
Jackets are J4 Precision, the same jackets Berger sells to custom bullet makers, held to tighter concentricity tolerances than ordinary production jackets. That is the main reason these bullets have dominated F-Class and long-range competition for two decades.

Honest Notes on Running 300 Norma
Buy the Berger 300 Norma Mag 215gr Hybrid Target if you shoot a 300 Norma Magnum in long range or ELR competition and want match ammunition that does not require you to develop a load. It is also the sensible practice ammunition for anyone running a Barrett MRAD or MK22 in this chambering.
Skip it if your barrel is slower than 1:10 twist. The 215 grain Hybrid needs that rate to stabilize, and a marginal twist shows up as vertical stringing at distance rather than as an obvious failure.
Skip it for hunting. This is an open tip match bullet, not a hunting bullet. It is not designed for reliable expansion on game and using it that way is a good way to wound an animal with an enormous cartridge.
Shooting this out of a Barrett? The Barrett MRAD in 300 Norma Magnum and the Barrett MK22 Sniper System are the rifles most often paired with this load. Berger publishes complete 300 Norma Magnum ballistic data on its own site.
MAG5 Firearms stocks match ammunition and the long-action rifles that shoot it. If you are working up a 300 Norma build, ask about barrel twist and magazine length before you commit.
