Dense #8 Patterns in a Classic Paper Shell

#8 shot is the most popular size for 16 yard trap and many skeet and sporting clays presentations. A 1 ounce charge holds a large number of pellets, filling the pattern so targets break cleanly even when your hold is a touch off. The quick 1,330 fps velocity shortens the time to target, which helps on fast, rising birds.

Paper hulls have a loyal following among competitive shooters. Federal builds Gold Medal Paper with a brass head for dependable extraction in both semi-autos and break actions, so you get the traditional feel without sacrificing reliability.

Extra high antimony lead keeps pellets hard and round, and the two piece wad with SoftCell technology reduces perceived recoil while producing more uniform patterns. That combination keeps you comfortable and consistent over long practice sessions and tournaments.

Field Notes and Clay Tips

Use Federal Gold Medal Paper 12ga 8 Shot shells for 16 yard trap, skeet, five stand and close to mid range sporting clays. A modified or improved modified choke is a common starting point for trap, while skeet chokes suit close targets.

Pattern your shotgun with this load at your typical target distance. Paper hulls and two piece wads may pattern differently from plastic hull loads, so confirm your choke choice before competition.

Keep paper hull ammunition dry. Moisture can swell paper hulls and affect feeding, so store boxes in a cool, dry place and avoid leaving them in damp vehicles.

Paper hulls can be reloaded, but they usually tolerate fewer cycles than plastic. Inspect each hull before reloading and retire any that show splits or soft mouths.

If you shoot trap or skeet and enjoy the classic feel of paper hulls with competition grade performance, Federal Gold Medal Paper 12ga 8 Shot shells are a superb choice. Pair them with a quality shell pouch for the field.

Paper shells also have a practical benefit at clubs that ask shooters to pick up their hulls. Paper is lighter and many shooters find it easier to handle when sorting hulls for reloading. With Federal Gold Medal Paper 12ga 8 Shot shells, you get that traditional experience along with the consistency competitive shooters need, from the first post of the day to the last.

Many shooters keep Federal Gold Medal Paper 12ga 8 Shot shells for singles and a #7.5 load for handicap yardage. Carrying both in a divided pouch makes switching between events quick and simple.
