Description

Swift A-Frame 30-06 Sprg 180gr is factory big game ammunition built around one of the toughest hunting bullets made. Swift loads its own A-Frame bullet into the 30-06 Springfield for hunters who expect to take shots at large, heavy-boned animals, and it comes in a 20 round box.
Who Makes Swift A-Frame 30-06 Sprg 180gr
Swift Bullet Company is a small manufacturer in Quinter, Kansas, best known for the A-Frame and Scirocco bullets. Handloaders have used the A-Frame for decades on everything from deer to African dangerous game, and Swift now offers it in loaded High Grade ammunition so you do not have to build it yourself.
The A-Frame is a dual-core bonded bullet. A copper cross-member, the frame, divides two lead cores. The front core is bonded to the jacket and expands, while the rear core and frame hold the shank together. Swift quotes expansion to roughly twice the original diameter with around 95 percent weight retention, which is why the bullet is so popular for elk, moose and bear.
That construction is the whole point of Swift A-Frame 30-06 Sprg 180gr. A conventional cup-and-core bullet can come apart on a heavy shoulder at close range. A bonded bullet with controlled expansion keeps its weight and keeps driving, which gives you a better chance of an exit wound and a blood trail.
Specifications and Performance
Swift does not publish a velocity figure on its product page for this load. As a reference point, 180 grain 30-06 factory hunting loads generally run in the region of 2,650 to 2,750 fps from a 22 to 24 inch barrel. Chronograph your own rifle before you build a drop chart for longer shots.
The A-Frame uses a semi-spitzer nose, which favours reliable expansion over a high ballistic coefficient. For most elk and moose hunting inside 300 yards that trade is sensible. If you regularly shoot beyond that range, consider a sleeker bullet such as the Swift Scirocco and confirm your drops on paper first.

Field Notes
This is 30-06 hunting ammo for big, tough animals. On elk, moose, black bear and large hogs the A-Frame is hard to beat. On light-bodied deer at long range it can be more bullet than you need, because it is designed to resist rapid expansion, and a softer bullet may expand more dramatically on small animals.
Bonded bullets often shoot to a different point of impact than the practice ammunition you zero with. Shoot at least a few groups with Swift A-Frame 30-06 Sprg 180gr before your season, and confirm your zero at the distance you expect to hunt. Because this is premium big game ammunition, you will want to keep practice shots for confirmation rather than plinking.
Many states set rules for bullet type, caliber and, in some areas, lead content for hunting. The A-Frame has a lead core, so it is not suitable where non-lead ammunition is required, such as California and some federal lands. Check your state regulations before you hunt.
Store the ammunition cool and dry and it will keep for many years. Rifle ammunition requires buyers to be at least 18, and some states add background checks or other rules for ammunition purchases.
