Cimarron Thunderer 45 Colt Overview
The Thunderer is a Cimarron revolver. Revolvers are simple to operate, work with a wide range of ammo and stay ready to fire with no magazine to load, which makes them a favorite for new shooters, home defense and the trail.
Action and Controls
The Thunderer runs on a Revolver action system. Practice your trigger press and reloads until they feel natural.
Barrel and Sights
The 4.75 inch barrel. Sights are Fixed. Check that your front sight is crisp in focus as you press the trigger, which is the key to accuracy with any handgun.
Frame and Finish
The frame is built for years of use. The finish is Blued.
Size and Carry
That size gives a full grip and a longer sight radius for steady shooting at the range and at home.
Ammo and Practice
Feed this revolver quality factory ammo from a known brand. Shoot a few hundred rounds of practice ammo and at least a box of your chosen defensive load to confirm it runs reliably before you trust it for protection.
The 45 Colt
The 45 Colt is a classic big bore round with plenty of mild cowboy loads and heavier hunting loads.
Home Defense and Range Use
This revolver is a solid choice for home defense, range practice and many kinds of competition. For home defense, keep it in a quick access safe and pick a quality defensive load.
Holsters and Accessories
Plan on a quality holster made for this exact model, a magazine pouch, a lock or quick access safe, and eye and ear protection. A weapon light and a red dot are popular upgrades if the gun is set up for them.
Buying Tips
Pick up extra magazines, a quality holster and plenty of practice ammo. If you are new to handguns, a basic safety class is a smart first step.
Care and Value
Clean the bore and action after each range trip or hunt, keep moving parts lightly oiled and wipe the finish after handling. A well kept Cimarron holds its value.
State Laws
Handgun laws vary by state, including magazine limits, approved roster lists and carry permits. Check your local law before you buy. Pennsylvania buyers can transfer at our Collegeville shop or at any FFL.
Ordering and Transfer
When you order a firearm from MAG5 Firearms, we ship it to the licensed dealer you choose. Your dealer completes the ATF Form 4473 and the background check, and may charge a transfer fee. Local buyers can complete the transfer at our shop. Bring a valid ID, and check your state waiting period before you plan a hunt or a range trip.
Safe Storage
Store the firearm unloaded in a locked safe or case, with ammunition kept separately. A cable lock or trigger lock is a good backup, especially in a home with children or visitors. Keep the original box and paperwork, and record the serial number in a safe place in case the gun is ever lost or stolen.
Your First Range Trip
Start at 5 to 7 yards with practice ammo and work on a steady grip and a smooth trigger press. Load only a few rounds at first, and check that the gun feeds and ejects reliably. Wear eye and ear protection, keep your finger off the trigger until you are on target, and clean the gun when you get home.
