Description
The Buffalo Bore 9mm +P+ 95gr Barnes TAC-XP is the fast end of what a 9mm Luger can be made to do. A 95 grain solid copper bullet at 1550 fps produces roughly 507 ft-lbs, which is 357 Magnum energy out of a service pistol. It is loaded to +P+, a pressure level above SAAMI +P, so read the note below before you buy. Twenty rounds per box, item 24G/20.

Buffalo Bore 9mm +P+ 95gr Barnes TAC-XP Overview
The bullet is a Barnes TAC-XP, machined from solid copper with a deep hollow nose and no lead core. It opens into copper petals and holds essentially all of its weight, which is the only reason a 95 grain bullet can reach useful depth. A 95 grain lead core bullet at this speed would come apart.
Buffalo Bore reports about 13 inches of penetration in gelatin, which lands inside the window most people consider appropriate for a defensive handgun round. That is the number that makes the light bullet defensible rather than a novelty.
They also built it around a low flash powder. That is a meaningful choice at this pressure, because the charge required to reach 1550 fps would normally produce a substantial fireball from a four inch barrel in poor light, and low flash 9mm Luger ammunition is what most people actually want for a defensive gun.
9mm +P+ Defense Ammo Ballistics
The published chronograph figures are worth studying because they make an unusual point. A four inch Walther P88 gives 1524 fps, a 4.6 inch Browning Hi Power gives 1508, a 4.9 inch Beretta 92F gives 1496, and a four inch Glock 19 gives 1374 fps.
Notice that the Glock and the Walther have identical barrel lengths and differ by 150 fps. Buffalo Bore says so directly: barrel length alone is not a reliable predictor of velocity, because rifling, throat and bore dimensions all matter. If you want to know what your pistol does with this 9mm +P+ defense ammo, you need a chronograph rather than a table.
Even the slowest of those figures is remarkable. 1374 fps with a 95 grain bullet is about 398 ft-lbs, still comfortably above a standard 124 grain load at 1150 fps, which makes roughly 360. At the nominal 1550 fps this load produces about 507 ft-lbs, which is genuinely magnum territory from a service pistol.
Why The 95 Grain TAC-XP Copper Bullet Works
Light and fast is an old idea that used to fail for a simple reason. Drive a conventional 9mm bullet past about 1400 fps and it tends to fragment on impact, dumping its energy in the first few inches and never reaching anything that matters. That is why heavy for calibre bullets took over.
Solid copper removes the failure. There is no jacket to separate and no core to squirt out, so the bullet expands into petals and stays in one piece regardless of how fast it arrives. A 95 grain TAC-XP copper bullet at 1500 fps behaves like a controlled expansion bullet rather than a frangible one.
The light bullet buys you two things. Recoil impulse drops, because recoil scales with bullet mass as well as velocity, so follow up shots with the Buffalo Bore 9mm +P+ 95gr Barnes TAC-XP come faster than the energy figure suggests. And the flat trajectory is a genuine, if minor, benefit at the longer end of pistol distances.
Add the flash suppressed powder and you have a low flash 9mm Luger ammunition option that does not ask you to choose between performance and keeping your night vision. That combination is rarer than it should be.

Pressure And Range Notes For This Lead Free 9mm Carry Load
Understand what +P+ means. There is no SAAMI specification for it. +P is a defined pressure ceiling above standard 9mm, and +P+ simply means the load sits above that. It belongs in a sound, modern, full size or compact service pistol in good working order, and it is not something to run through a worn gun, an unsupported chamber, or a very small pocket pistol.
Expect accelerated wear if you shoot a lot of it. Recoil springs and locking surfaces take more punishment at this pressure than at standard pressure. Most people carry a magazine or two of this 9mm +P+ defense ammo and practise with ordinary ammunition, which is the sensible approach.
Verify function in your own pistol before you trust it. A light bullet at high pressure produces a different recoil impulse from what most guns are tuned around, and while reliability is generally excellent, that is the sort of thing you confirm with a box rather than assume.
Chronograph it if you can. As the published figures show, two pistols with the same barrel length can differ by 150 fps with a 95 grain TAC-XP copper bullet, so the only way to know what your gun actually produces is to measure it.
