Description

This is the ACOG that built the reputation. The Trijicon ACOG 4×32 BAC Green Crosshair is Trijicon TA31-CH-G, the 4×32 BAC riflescope with a green crosshair bullet drop reticle for 5.56 and .223, and it takes no batteries at all. A fibre optic ribbon along the top of the housing feeds the reticle in daylight and a sealed tritium lamp keeps it visible after dark.

Fibre, Tritium and the Trijicon ACOG 4×32 BAC Green Crosshair Reticle

The dual illuminated reticle scales itself. The brighter the ambient light, the more the fibre optic collects and the brighter the crosshair glows, which means it never washes out in the sun and never blooms in a dark bay. You do not adjust it because there is nothing to adjust. When there is no ambient light left to gather, the tritium lamp underneath takes over and the crosshair stays visible. That is the entire electrical system: none.

The reticle itself is a .223 BDC crosshair reticle rather than a horseshoe or a chevron. The crosshair gives you a finer aiming point than a donut or a horseshoe does, so it suits shooters who value precision at distance over the fastest possible close range pickup. Holdover marks run down the vertical stadia and are calibrated for 55 grain ammunition from a 20 inch barrel.

The Trijicon ACOG 4×32 BAC Green Crosshair also uses the Bindon Aiming Concept, which is Trijicon shorthand for shooting with both eyes open. Your brain takes the magnified image from the scope eye and the wide unmagnified view from the other, and a fixed 4x ends up feeling far more usable up close than the specification suggests, particularly on anything moving.

Trijicon ACOG 4×32 BAC Green Crosshair Specifications

Honest Notes on the Trijicon ACOG 4×32 BAC Green Crosshair

Eye relief is 1.5 inches and that is the first thing to come to terms with. It is short, the eye box is unforgiving, and anyone moving across from a low power variable will find the first range session frustrating. What you get in return is repeatability: once you have found where the Trijicon ACOG 4×32 BAC Green Crosshair needs to sit on your rail and built a consistent cheek weld, the sight picture is the same every time.

You cannot turn the reticle down. Dual illumination is automatic, which is usually a strength and occasionally a weakness. Standing in a dim room looking out through a bright doorway, the fibre is reading the dark room rather than the bright scene, and the crosshair can be dimmer than you would like. The battery illuminated LED ACOGs exist precisely for shooters who want manual control of that.

And be clear about what a crosshair is for. It is the precise option in the ACOG reticle range, which makes it slower to pick up inside twenty five yards than a horseshoe or a chevron. If most of your shooting is close and fast, one of those reticles suits better. Buy the Trijicon ACOG 4×32 BAC Green Crosshair because you shoot at distance and want a fine aiming point that works in any light without a battery.
