Holosun SCRS Red 2 MOA Solar Overview

Holosun’s Solar Charging Rifle Sight is a compact 20mm-class tube, about 2.5 ounces according to retailers, that sits on a removable Picatinny riser. Holosun rates its internal power reserve at up to 20,000 hours on setting 6. The 650nm red LED delivers a clean dot, and adjustments run 1 MOA per click with about 100 MOA of total travel. Shake Awake powers it down when the rifle is still.

Why a Single Red Dot

A plain 2 MOA dot keeps your sight picture uncluttered, covers just two inches at 100 yards, and makes zeroing simple. Red is the color most shooters learned on, it contrasts well against green and brown backgrounds, and it is the most power-efficient LED color, which helps a solar-charged sight stay topped up.

Living With Solar Power

Daylight and bright indoor light recharge the built-in cell. A rifle stored in a dark safe will slowly draw the cell down, so give the sight some light during routine maintenance. Holosun describes the cell as non-removable. Some retailers list a CR2032 for the SCRS, which does not match Holosun’s description, so go by the manufacturer.

Brightness and Controls

There are 12 brightness settings, including night vision compatible levels, plus an automatic mode that adjusts to the light around you. The sight remembers your last setting. Shake Awake and auto-off together stretch the reserve so the dot is ready when you shoulder the rifle.

Mounting Options

The riser sets the dot for a lower 1/3 co-witness with standard AR-15 irons. With the riser removed, the 509T footprint lets the sight mount low on compatible plates for shotguns and rimfires. Holosun magnifiers at the same height line up cleanly behind it for longer shots.

Considerations

A built-in rechargeable cell is not user replaceable and will lose some capacity over many years. For close-range defense, a circle-dot reticle is faster than a single dot; the SCRS Red MRS covers that. Your First Range Trip

Mount your optic, bore sight it, then fire your first groups at 25 yards before moving to 100. Let the barrel cool between strings, and record your zero and the load you used. Wear eye and ear protection, keep the muzzle in a safe direction, and clean the bore when you get home.
