Description
The Zastava ZPAP M70 Frontline is a Serbian-built AK-pattern rifle in 7.62x39mm, wearing classic wood furniture over a proper factory receiver. Zastava has been making Kalashnikovs in Kragujevac for more than sixty years, and the M70 is the pattern they are known for: heavier, thicker and built to a military standard rather than assembled from a parts kit.
A Factory AK, Not a Rebuild
The receiver is 1.5mm stamped steel, half again as thick as the 1mm sheet used on many commercial AKs, and it carries a bulged front trunnion. That combination is what lets an M70 handle a lifetime of 7.62×39 without stretching or cracking. The barrel is chrome lined, which is the single most important feature if you plan to shoot corrosive surplus ammunition or simply want the bore to outlast you.
Zastava ZPAP M70 Frontline Barrel and Sights
The 16.25-inch chrome-lined barrel is threaded M14x1 left hand, the AK standard, so any common muzzle device fits. Sights are the traditional AK arrangement, a hooded post up front and a sliding tangent rear, and the receiver carries a side rail so a standard AK optic mount can go on without modification. One 30-round magazine ships with the rifle.
Frontline Wood Furniture
The Frontline configuration uses wood for the stock, handguard and grip rather than polymer. Wood soaks up heat instead of transmitting it, it does not get slippery in the cold, and on an AK it simply looks right. Every set has its own grain, so no two rifles are quite identical, which is part of the appeal of buying a wood-furniture AK rather than a black one.

Why 7.62×39 in an AK
The 7.62×39 cartridge and the Kalashnikov were designed together, and the combination still works exactly as intended. Recoil is a firm push rather than a snap, the round hits hard inside 200 yards, and the loose tolerances that make an AK ugly on paper are what let it keep running when it is dirty, wet or cold. For a rifle you want to leave in a truck or hand to a new shooter without worrying, there is not much better.
Why Buyers Choose the Zastava ZPAP M70 Frontline
Plenty of AKs on the market are built from imported parts on domestic receivers of varying quality. This one comes out of the Zastava factory with a thick receiver, a bulged trunnion and a chrome-lined barrel, and it costs less than many rifles with a thinner spec sheet. The wood furniture makes it a rifle worth looking at rather than just shooting, and Zastava Arms USA supports it here.
Who Should Buy It
This suits the shooter who wants one good AK rather than a project, the collector who prefers wood to polymer, and anyone who values chrome lining because they intend to shoot a great deal of inexpensive ammunition. Buy magazines known to fit Yugoslav-pattern AKs, and note that the side rail takes standard AK optic mounts if you want to add a red dot later.
