Description
The Zastava CZ999 9mm Serbian Crest is a limited-run version of Zastava’s full-size DA/SA service pistol, with blued metal, a 4.25 inch barrel, 15+1 capacity and engraved walnut grips carrying the Serbian crest. Lipsey’s lists it as a limited model (Zastava item CZ999SC).

Zastava CZ999 9mm Serbian Crest Overview
The CZ999 descends from the CZ99, the Yugoslav service pistol of the 1990s, whose layout borrows from the SIG P226 with an ambidextrous decocker. Lipsey’s lists an alloy frame, a 4.25 inch barrel, a 7.8 inch overall length, a weight of about 2 pounds, 3-dot sights, an ambidextrous decocker and one 15-round magazine. Zastava’s photos show the pistol in a wooden presentation case.
DA/SA Operation
The first shot is a longer, heavier double-action pull, and later shots are short single-action pulls. After shooting, the decocker safely drops the hammer. It takes practice to manage the transition from the first shot to the second, but many shooters like the extra margin of the long first pull.

Ambidextrous Controls
The CZ999 has an ambidextrous decocker, and Zastava designed the pistol with controls that suit both hands. Left-handed shooters will find it easier to run than many traditional DA/SA guns. Learn where each lever sits before carrying it.
Engraved Walnut
The walnut grips are engraved with the Serbian crest, which sets this model apart from standard polymer-grip CZ999s. Walnut needs a little more care than polymer, and engraved panels should be kept clean and dry. Many buyers treat this edition as a collectible and a shooter. If you plan to shoot it often, consider a set of plain grips for range use and keep the engraved panels for display.

Parts and Magazines
The CZ999 is less common in the US than CZ 75 or SIG pistols, so holsters and magazines take more searching. Buy a spare magazine when you find one. Do not assume CZ 75 or SIG parts fit; the CZ999 is its own design despite the name.
Shooting Notes
At around two pounds, the CZ999 is soft shooting with standard 9mm loads and points well. The 3-dot sights are fine in daylight but do not glow at night. It is a solid range and home pistol, and the limited grips make it a nice addition to a collection of service pistols. Standard pressure 115 and 124 grain loads are a good starting point for practice.
State Laws and Ownership
Pennsylvania has no handgun roster and no magazine limit, but handgun transfers run through the PICS check. States including California, Massachusetts and New York limit which handguns dealers may sell, and several states cap magazines at 10 or 15 rounds. Check your state and local rules and confirm with your receiving FFL before ordering.
