Description
The Winchester XPR Strata MB 6.8 Western is a rifle chambered in 6.8 Western with a 24-inch barrel and a 3+1 capacity. It pairs a free-floating barrel and muzzle brake with a TrueTimber Strata camo stock and a Flat Dark Earth Perma-Cote finish.
Winchester XPR Strata MB 6.8 Western Overview
The XPR is Winchester’s modern bolt-action hunting rifle, built around a strong, smooth-cycling action and the M.O.A. trigger system. The Hunter Strata MB version is dressed for the woods: a TrueTimber Strata camo synthetic stock, Flat Dark Earth Perma-Cote on the barrel and receiver, and a muzzle brake to tame recoil. It is an honest, hard-working rifle at a price that leaves room in the budget for good glass.
Design and Features
Perma-Cote is a durable coating that protects the barrel and receiver from rust and wear in wet weather. The stock has textured grip panels on the wrist and fore-end for a sure hold with cold or wet hands, and an Inflex recoil pad. The barrel is free floated for consistent accuracy, and the receiver is drilled and tapped for scope bases.
Handling in the Field
The XPR is light enough to carry all day and points naturally. The muzzle brake makes a noticeable difference in recoil, but it is loud, so wear hearing protection and expect some blast for anyone beside you. The polymer stock is practical rather than fancy, and it will not swell or warp in the rain.
Action and Trigger
The XPR uses a three-lug bolt with a short 60-degree throw, so you can cycle it quickly without bumping your scope. The M.O.A. trigger system breaks crisply with zero take-up and very little creep, and a two-position safety with a bolt release button lets you unload with the safety on. The detachable box magazine makes loading and unloading quick.
Sights and Optics
Mount the optic of your choice with quality rings or a mount, and zero it with the load you plan to use.
The 6.8 Western Cartridge
The 6.8 Western is a modern short-action cartridge designed for long, heavy, high-BC bullets. It gives flat trajectories and strong energy retention for elk and deer at long range, though ammunition is less common and more expensive than 308 or 6.5 Creedmoor.
Setup and Accessories
Start with a quality optic and solid rings or a mount, then add a sling for carrying and a bipod or shooting bag for steady rests. Test a few loads for accuracy and settle on the one your rifle likes best. A hard case protects your investment on the way to the range or the field.
Ownership Tips
Read the owner manual fully before your first range trip, and keep the manual, box, and receipt with your records for warranty service and resale. Unload the rifle and confirm it is empty before cleaning. Field-strip it according to the owner manual, scrub the bore with a brush and patches, and wipe carbon from the bolt face and chamber. Apply a light coat of quality gun oil to the contact points, and wipe the exterior with a lightly oiled cloth before storage.
State Laws
Magazine capacity limits, feature restrictions, and transfer rules vary by state and locality. Check your local laws before ordering, and ask your receiving dealer if you are unsure whether this configuration is legal where you live.
