Built for Precision Shooting
This load pairs a 285 grain boat tail hollow point with the 338 Lapua Magnum, a combination aimed at shooters who want tight groups and predictable trajectory at distance.
Match ammunition is about consistency: uniform cases, carefully selected powder charges and bullets with a consistent shape. Small differences from round to round show up as vertical stringing at long range, so a consistent load makes a real difference.
For competition, load development comparisons or simply learning your rifle, Winchester Match 338 Lapua 285gr BTHP gives you a known baseline that does not change from box to box as much as general-purpose ammunition.

Precision Shooting Tips
Use Winchester Match 338 Lapua 285gr BTHP only in firearms chambered for 338 Lapua Magnum.
Buy enough of a single lot for a full season or match series and record the lot number.
Keep a data book with velocity, temperature and come-ups so you can build reliable dope.
Let your barrel cool between groups for a fair picture of accuracy.
Winchester Match 338 Lapua 285gr BTHP is a superb choice for shooters who want a ready-made match ammo from a known maker.
Chronograph your load
Published velocities come from test barrels. Chronograph this load in your own rifle so your ballistic calculator matches what you see on target.
Twist rate
Longer, heavier bullets need a faster twist to stabilize. Check your barrel twist against the bullet weight before you buy in quantity.
Storage
Keep match ammunition out of direct sun during a match. Heat raises chamber pressure and velocity, which changes your elevation at distance.
Reading the box
The box lists the caliber, bullet weight and bullet type. Always match the cartridge to the caliber stamped on your firearm’s barrel or slide, and never fire ammunition that is not specified for your firearm.
About Winchester
Winchester Match 338 Lapua 285gr BTHP comes from Winchester, and the specifications listed here follow the maker’s and our distributor’s published data for this item. Compare loads by bullet weight, bullet type and intended use to find the best fit for your firearm.
Buying the right amount
When you find a load that performs well, buy enough for practice and the full season at once. Ammunition from the same lot tends to perform the same, which keeps your results consistent.
Safety first
Always treat every firearm as loaded, keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction and keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot. Wear eye and ear protection every time you shoot.
Understanding bullet weight
Heavier bullets in a given caliber usually leave the muzzle slower but carry momentum well and resist wind drift, while lighter bullets shoot faster and flatter at shorter ranges. Neither is better in every case; the right choice depends on the game, the distance and your firearm.
Choosing the right load
Start with the job you need the ammunition to do, whether that is hunting, target shooting or practice. Then match the load to that job, and finally test a few boxes in your own firearm, because every barrel has its preferences.
