Wilson Combat 38 Super 124gr XTP Overview

Wilson Combat is best known for hand-fitted 1911 pistols and premium AR-15 rifles built in Berryville, Arkansas, and the company loads its own ammunition to the same standard. Every Wilson Combat load is assembled with new, high quality brass, carefully selected primers and powders, and bullets from makers such as Hornady, Sierra and Speer. Loads are tested in real firearms for function, velocity and accuracy, so what you buy is ammunition the company trusts in its own guns.

Bullet Design

The Hornady XTP, short for Extreme Terminal Performance, is a jacketed hollow point designed for controlled expansion and deep penetration. Serrations in the jacket help the bullet open at a wide range of velocities, while the jacket keeps it together so it holds weight. That balance is why the XTP is a favorite for both personal protection and handgun hunting of small and medium game.

Intended Use

The 38 Super is a high-velocity cartridge with a long history in 1911 pistols and competition. At about 1335 fps from a 5 inch barrel, this +P load gives flat trajectory and strong energy for its size while staying controllable in a full-size steel frame. It is a good fit for carry, home defense and field use where a dependable expanding bullet is wanted.

Performance

This bullet leaves a 5 inch test barrel at about 1335 fps with 491 ft-lbs of energy. Actual velocity varies with barrel length, temperature and the individual firearm, so confirm your zero with the exact load you plan to use. Shooting a few groups at your usual distance is the best way to see how it performs in your own pistol.

Firearm Compatibility

This ammunition is made for firearms chambered in 38 Super, including 1911 pistols built for the cartridge. It is a +P load, so use it only in firearms rated for 38 Super +P ammunition, and never fire it in a 38 ACP, 38 Special or 9mm firearm.

Quality You Can Count On

Wilson Combat loads every round with new brass rather than reloaded cases, and checks the ammunition in real firearms. Consistent cases, primers and powder charges are what give reliable feeding, clean ignition and accuracy from box to box.

Choosing the Right Load

Match the bullet to the job. Expanding hunting bullets are built for game, match bullets for paper, and heavy flat points for deep, straight penetration. Think about your typical distance, the size of the target and what lies beyond it, then pick a load and practice with it so you know where it hits.

Storage and Care

Store ammunition in a cool, dry place in its original boxes, away from solvents and lubricants that can contaminate primers. Inspect each round before loading, and set aside any with dented cases, loose bullets or corrosion.
