Description
The Weatherby Vanguard Obsidian 223 Rem is a rifle chambered in 223 Remington with a 24-inch barrel and a 5+1 capacity. Weatherby lists this model as the Vanguard Obsidian in 223 Remington (SKU VTX223RR16T).
Weatherby Vanguard Obsidian 223 Rem Overview
The Weatherby Vanguard is one of the best values in bolt-action rifles, with a cold hammer-forged barrel, a one-piece machined bolt, and a sub-MOA accuracy guarantee with premium ammunition. It has earned a reputation as an accurate, rugged hunting rifle at a sensible price.
Design and Features
This Vanguard Obsidian configuration features a Monte Carlo stock design. It weighs about 7.5 pounds and measures 44″ overall. The barrel has a 1:8 inch twist rate and a #2 contour. The muzzle is threaded 1/2-28. Length of pull is 13.5″.
Handling in the Field
The Vanguard is a dependable rifle for deer camp, elk country, and the range alike, and it holds up to years of hard use.
Action and Trigger
The two-stage, match-quality trigger is adjustable and breaks cleanly, and the two-lug bolt cycles smoothly. A three-position safety lets you cycle the action with the safety engaged.
Sights and Optics
Mount the optic of your choice with quality rings or a mount, and zero it with the load you plan to use.
The 223 Remington Cartridge
The 5.56 NATO and 223 Remington are light, flat-shooting, and easy to control, and ammunition is widely available and affordable.
Setup and Accessories
Start with a quality optic and solid rings or a mount, then add a sling for carrying and a bipod or shooting bag for steady rests. Test a few loads for accuracy and settle on the one your rifle likes best. A hard case protects your investment on the way to the range or the field.
Ownership Tips
Read the owner manual fully before your first range trip, and keep the manual, box, and receipt with your records for warranty service and resale. Unload the rifle and confirm it is empty before cleaning. Field-strip it according to the owner manual, scrub the bore with a brush and patches, and wipe carbon from the bolt face and chamber. Apply a light coat of quality gun oil to the contact points, and wipe the exterior with a lightly oiled cloth before storage.
State Laws
Magazine capacity limits, feature restrictions, and transfer rules vary by state and locality. Check your local laws before ordering, and ask your receiving dealer if you are unsure whether this configuration is legal where you live.
Ordering and Transfer
When you order a firearm from MAG5 Firearms, we ship it to the licensed dealer you choose. Your dealer completes the ATF Form 4473 and the background check, and may charge a transfer fee. Local buyers can complete the transfer at our shop. Bring a valid ID, and check your state waiting period before you plan a hunt or a range trip.
Safe Storage
Store the firearm unloaded in a locked safe or case, with ammunition kept separately. A cable lock or trigger lock is a good backup, especially in a home with children or visitors. Keep the original box and paperwork, and record the serial number in a safe place in case the gun is ever lost or stolen.
