Description
The Weatherby 307 Alpine ST 240 WBY is the steel barreled member of the Alpine family, and it is the one that makes the most financial sense for most hunters. You keep the Model 307 action, the PEAK 44 carbon fiber stock, the TriggerTech trigger and the Accubrake DST, and you trade the carbon wrapped barrel for a magnum sporter contour in steel. Weight is still only 6.3 pounds, overall length is 42 inches and capacity is five rounds. The UPC is 747115462780.
MAG5 Firearms lists it for hunters who want the Alpine package without the carbon barrel premium.
Where the ST Sits in the Line
The difference between the ST and the CT is the barrel and nothing else that matters. The CT uses a BSF carbon wrapped barrel, the ST uses a magnum sporter contour in steel, and in this chambering the finished rifles weigh almost exactly the same because a 240 Weatherby does not need a heavy tube. What a Weatherby 307 Alpine ST 240 WBY saves you is real money. For most hunters that is the right call, and a Weatherby 307 Alpine ST 240 WBY shoots just as well as its carbon sibling.
The peak 44 bastion stock is carried over unchanged. It is a carbon fiber shell with a vertical grip, an ambidextrous palm swell and a 3D-Hex recoil pad, finished here in exposed carbon with grey, light grey and gold brushed accents. Receiver, barrel, brake, bolt and knob are all Graphite Black Cerakote, so a Weatherby 307 Alpine ST 240 WBY reads as a single piece rather than an assembly of mismatched parts.
The action is the Weatherby Model 307: a two lug bolt with an M16 style extractor, tool-less bolt disassembly for cleaning in camp, and a Remington 700 footprint so aftermarket bases, triggers, stocks and chassis all fit. Feeding is from a hinged floorplate style five round magazine, which is two more rounds than the detachable box rifles in the family carry. The triggertech field trigger adjusts from outside the stock.
The Cartridge and the Details
240 Weatherby Magnum remains one of the flattest shooting 6 millimetre cartridges made. Against a 243 Winchester you gain roughly 100 to 150 feet per second with the same bullet and almost no extra recoil, which makes it an excellent deer and antelope round at distance. The 1 in 7.5 twist on a Weatherby 307 Alpine ST 240 WBY is fast enough to stabilize heavy high BC 6 millimetre bullets that older 240 rifles could not use.
The accubrake dst is a directional self timing brake, which means it indexes correctly when tightened without shims or timing washers. It makes a light magnum comfortable and it makes a Weatherby 307 Alpine ST 240 WBY loud, which is the standard trade. Note the thread here is 1/2-28 rather than the 5/8-24 used on the carbon barrelled models, so a brake or thread protector bought for a CT will not fit an ST.
Ammunition is the honest constraint. 240 Weatherby is proprietary, it is not stocked everywhere, and it costs more than a 243. Buy enough of one load to sight in, build a drop chart and hunt for two seasons, and consider handloading if you shoot much. If that logistics burden does not appeal, a 243 Winchester or 6.5 Creedmoor in the same rifle family will be far easier to live with.

Who Should Buy It
A Weatherby 307 Alpine ST 240 WBY is the value pick of the Alpine line. You get the same action, stock, trigger and brake as the carbon models at a meaningfully lower price, in a chambering where the carbon barrel saves you very little weight anyway. For a deer and antelope hunter who walks, this is the rifle to look at first. Full factory specifications are published by Weatherby.
If you want the carbon wrapped barrel for the stiffness and the badge, the 307 Alpine CT in 240 Weatherby is the direct comparison. If you want a chassis with a folding stock and an ARCA rail, look at the 307 Alpine MDT. Browse the rest of our rifles to compare weights and prices.
Two practical notes. Choose a light scope so the finished rifle stays in the seven pound class, and buy rings that match the supplied rail rather than assuming the rail is enough. Second, remember the 1/2-28 muzzle thread when ordering accessories, because it differs from the carbon barrelled rifles and a Weatherby 307 Alpine ST 240 WBY will not accept their brakes.
